2014 mustang hood closing

I was wondering if theres a certain way you have to use to close the hood. I just opened it up for the first time and now when trying to close it, it wont. I guide it down, then press on it, and it just sticks up again.

any help?

I drop mine from about a foot up and it closes fine. I am concerned that trying to close it the way you describe one could easily dent it. The drop approach was a recommendation from my dealership.

I just went outside and tried that, all it did was make a louder noise. It still did not close when dropping down from 1-2 feet, it just locked into place with the "holder" you have to push up to open the hood but that is about it.

If it's not latching, either the hood is getting hung up on something stick up in the engine compartment - or it's time to swing by Ford and have the shop look at it.

My 2014 was also very hard to close, but I just end up using a little lube on the hood latch mechanism and it seemed to help. I also adjusted the rubber stoppers. It still won't close the way you describe, but a slight drop and it closes just fine.

I also drop it from about a foot with it closing fine. But I don't think technique is the problem here. I can do either or. Go get it checked out

Had the same problem. It would take me 8-9 tries to get the hood closed. I wound up slamming down on the hood to get it closed. I wound up taking it back to the dealer less than a week after delivery. Still takes some effort to closed but it is better now. My neighbor has a '12 GT and he is able to let the hood drop to close it.

I have to push it down as i am slamming it to close it. Takes a good 2 foot drop to get it to close reliably.

Now i have hood struts, so it takes a little more force to close.

I too do not like the way the hood on my 14 closes. It requires about a foot drop with pressure down on the hood to make it close. Always prefer just lightly pressing down on the hood to latch it. Having to drop the hood plus apply pressure also makes it hard to not touch the paint with bare hands. Will get used to it eventually though. On the plus side I like the rubber coating on the prop rod to help reduce paint scratching from having the hood up.

Check to see that the hood latch pull lever in the driver's footwell has returned to the full in position. If not that's your problem.

I have to drop mine, which I do not like doing but it seems to be the only way to close it.

I bought a 2013 in November and a 2012 in December. With the 2012, I am able to latch it and press down to shut completely. However, I learned that I can not do that with my 2013. At about a foot up, I need to push it up about 2 - 3 inches and let it drop in order for it to shut. I really don't like that method, though.

I have to admit to mine is also very hard to close. I had to drop it from a good 2 feet and now with the hood struts I have to slam it down...

I wonder if it's a way that Ford found to resolve the hood vibration on 05 + or if it's only an adjustment issue ?

Hi awesome people,

I recommend you all make an appointment with your dealers to get them checked out. Then, PM me with your VIN, dealer, full name, mileage, and best daytime number so I can escalate this to the customer service manager of your areas.
