2014 Mustang a fastback or not?

Ok guys I am confused about something. Are our 2005-2014 mustangs considered fast-backs or not. All I hear that the new 2015 mustang is a true fastback

In my opinion if you look at the roofline of the 2015 vs the earlier ones you'll see the slope and then it continues all the way through the trunk whereas the earlier models Slope to the trunk then the trunk sticks out and it breaks up that slope. My opinion is the 2015 is more of a "fastback" than the current cars. Someone else let me know if I'm way off on this.

It's really up to interpretation. I don't consider the S197 to be a fastback, the slope stops at the trunk and levels out there. Meanwhile, the new Mustang has a slope that keeps going almost to the tail lights.

That being said the S197 is pretty close to it...if people want to call it that, that's cool.

Not sure whatelse is to be said on the topic. I'd call it a fastback but I can see where some would disagree. Personally, it doesn't matter to me...I dig the '05+ roof line just the way it is.

I can say with 100% certainty that our 2013 Mustang is NOT a fastback.

Seems like the roof-line barely extends further than the S197. I feel like it's just for marketing reasons it's a 'fastback'.

*EDIT*: Looking at it more, the roof drops at a steeper angle as well.

From the 3/4 view they almost look the same, but I agree that the 2015 is closer to the true fastback look than the 2014.

Since Ford called the 1965 a fastback and it had at least as much flat trunk lid as a S197, then I would call both an S197 and an S550 a fastback. There's no official definition of which I am aware.

That's what I heard to that the early 1960's mustangs were also fastbacks.

<TIMELINE: Ford added a fastback to its 1965 Mustang lineup, but the coupe continued to be the best seller of the group. The coupe outsold the convertible and fastback individually five to one, accounting for nearly 75 percent of total sales.>

I have a a 1965 fast back mustang, and a 2014 mustang.
There roof lines are very similar.
But 1968 fast backs look very similar to the new 2015, so I guess they are both fastbacks!
But since I liked the look of the 1965 best out of the vintage stangs, I also like the look of the 2014 better than the 2015.
Just my 2 cents!

Ford sells my 2011 as a 'coupe'. My 1986 was a 'hatchback', i can't remember what Ford called it. I called it a fastback We didn't have internet and Mustang Forums back then .

I just asked my wife if she thought my (our) Mustang was a coupe or a fastback, she said it was a fastback. We are both 61 years old and both of us think my (our) Mustang is a 'fastback'
