Like I posted earlier, the Ford racing people said the July 2013 production date is incorrect, will work on late 2013 MY and newer cars, although no specific date was quoted.

Wonder if Ford could be convinced to provide a "demo" of it for instance software 'expires' after 24 hours or something. Audi tuners used to offer that (like a 4 hour tune or something) to allow people to try out the software and determine if they wanted to buy it or not.

The dealer is the only place to get it loaded to the cars pcm, for a "demo" you would still have to pay the dealers labor to load it, same price as they would charge to load the full version. So if they did it that way, you would have to pay the dealer twice if you decided afterward that you wanted the full version, plus the cost of the program.

I assume new programming is loaded up through an OBDII connection? That type of software load typically is about 5-10 mins. I used to do my own tuning on my last car, and I'm assuming the mustang is similar. Could be wrong, but based on that assumption it should be a short task to load up new tuning. Might see what my local dealer offers at some point

Think I have read that dealers loading the Track Key tuning to Boss cars were charging an hour labor, so probably $90-$100 to do it.

I really don't see Ford racing offering a free trial. They would have to do a whole lot of changes to the programming to accomplish that feature and with so few potential sales it wouldn't be worth it for them.

It is pretty amazing to me that they are doing this deal at all.

Cool

This is really good news about the track key for the GT. I figured Ford had big plans for the track key as they went out and got a patent on it. I look forward to see Ford offering more options for the track key and maybe have levels of performance to choose from for various vehicles. Tauras SHO with a track key would be outstanding.
I may just have to buy a good used 2014 GT in a couple of years and get the track key and add a pair of those Boss 302 side exhausts.

If you had read all the posts in this thread you would see where that date is incorrect, it will work for late 2013 and all 2014 GT's.

Anyone have any updates on this?
I've been meaning to give the dealer a call but didn't get to it yet.

You should stay in contact with Ford Racing at 1-800-367-3778 for more info, Toxix.

It is for July 2013 and later build dates only. Significant changes were made to the electronics, sensors etc, after that date. Ford Racing lead tech guy confirmed that to me by phone.
Also confirmed there will be no change in power. So my ProCal tune will be overwritten and that power lost.
However the rest of the track key items mean a lot to me so I will be purchasing one.

I may be the only one in the country who has gone from aftermarket tunes to TracKey. As soon as I receive my C&L intake next week and hit the dyno I will have a full writeup. My preliminary opinion after one week: if you plan to keep your stock cats get the TracKey.

Also it is in no way unstreetable. The throttle is no more touchy than with any other aftermarket tune. Engine braking is stronger but in no way intrusive.

.

If it's for July 2013 and later builds it should only apply to 2014 MY, because if I'm not mistaking they stopped building the 2013 models in late 2012..

Definitely interested in getting the track key. However, Ford Racing needs to develop a network of Ford dealers with set pricing for installs. My dealer charged me 2 hours labor to install the Pro-Cal tune, which is ludicrous! I will have to find a different dealer to install the Track Key.

Can they leave the Pro-Cal as the "default tune" when the regular key is used?
