2014 Break-In Mileage
I am wondering how long you have waited to "HAMMER" the pedal to the metal on your new Mustang V6, V8, Shelby..whatever you have. Buried in the owners manual it says "Break-In period for the engine is 1000 miles". Just curious.

I really couldn't help it, but I had to feel the power after about 20 miles. I came over from a turbo 4 banger and just couldn't resist the fact that I now have torque below 3500 rpms! It's my weekend car and it sits all week. I'd be waiting for a few months if I had to wait for 1,000 miles. I'm sitting at 250 miles now and the car has seen quite a few bursts. I've never revved it out to 7 grand yet, but I still rip to 5-6 grand.

I plan to take it pretty easy (3500-4000 peak RPM) for the first 500 - will break it in driving to work and back which is half back roads, half highway, so should be perfect.
500-1000 will probably bring her up to 5000-5500 a couple times, then after 1000k it's game on
What's the Ford recommendation for first oil change? I will be driving the car hard once its broken in (as in track days at various road courses). I should be just a tick past 1000 when I get to Watkins Glen in August, and I plan to do an oil change right before... haven't broken in a car that is track worthy before

I changed the oil at 550 miles, now it's at 6,000....gonna change it soon, no burning, seems like light ticking at idle, but not sure.
I haven't driven it too hard, stock V6 feels like I am hurting it driving it hard, but I stepped out of a PI cam and PI intake equipped 2V 4.6 thunderbird with 3.73 gears and a tune, so, this car feels different to say the least, than what I was used to.

Next car im changing every 500 miles. So when I take a trip back home to Wisconsin, I'll change the oil five times total, cuz you know you magically need to change the oil before any trip.

I have rebuilt motors and never had problems with oil burning, we always run them on a dyno to load the motors and check them. I'll say we run then harder in the first 5 minutes then you will do in you cars life, (not to say you can't kill it though. I also run the break in oil for the first 1000 miles, it helps seat the rings and float the metal chips/ dirt out. 500 miles may be to short.
