2013 GT and downshifting
Am I the only one having a hard time downshifting smoothly? The car just dives so much when going down a gear. I've even been trying to rev match on the downshift to make things smoother, but it's hardly successful. I used to own an 07 GSXR 750 and a 5 speed car with an 8lb flywheel and got used to rev matching, but I'm not getting it with this car. How are you guys doing? How heavy is the flywheel on this car it revs like it's 50lbs.

I know what you mean about the flywheels. I had a subaru with a 12lb flywheel and just a small blip is all it took to rev match. This thing feels like I have to try to hit redline every time to get it to match up. I usually heel toe so it's a little more intrusive to hold the throttle that long while on the brake and all the other things I'm trying to do simultaneously.
Took me a little while to get it right too, even coming from another Mustang, but its so much easier w/ a 6 speed. No more heavy engine braking. I blip it like 500-1k RPMs and try to skip gears when I can, but it depends on your speed. And if Im early on the blip, like on a turn, I hit it again. Still fine tuning it all, but Ive got her running smooth now. Youll get it.
P.S. When in doubt, use your brake and save your clutch.

Yeah like most late model manual trans cars it has a heavy flywheel and the electronic throttle lag that makes it tricky to time it. But, for me at least, I think the pedal placement in this car makes the blip much easier.
Personally, I don't feel any kind of lag. If I didn't know better, I'd think it was a cable throttle. Electronic throttles have come a long way quickly, in comparing my Stang to my previous car ('03 Mazda6). The throttle on our cars is precise enough that I find it easy to move in bumper-to-bumper traffic at 1,000 RPM or less. It'd be hard to do that with a bad lag.

He is talking about heel-toe. A big part of the issue is the brake override setting that prevents Toyota style failure. If you totally defeat the advance track (long press with brake) you will allow simultaneous application of brake and throttle. Only Mustang and raptor have a way to turn that off.
