2012 Sterling Gray V6

I just found out something interesting. I have a 2012 Sterling Gray V6 and I asked the dealer why is that when I go to any parts place sterling gray not listed as a color. They said that sterling gray was not a option on the 2012, only 2011 and later on again on the 2013. I looked up my VIN and it comes back as a 2012. Maybe I got a rare one?

There are a number of 2012 Sterling Gray Mustangs. It's likely that it was only offered for a short while and as such only a few hundred managed to get that color. It would coincide with the 2011 earthquake in Japan, so it's likely that paint was sourced from Japan, and supplies dried up for a while.

I did a google search, I don't know how reliable this is but it said that there were about 460 SGM made in 2012, about 1.5%

SGM was brought back after the Japan Earthquake since they lost Lava Red and the Kona due to the Pigment that came from Japan. So all the SGM 2012 are later builds.

Officially, SGM was discontinued for the 2012MY, until the tsunami wiped out the plant that made Kona Blue and Lava Red. Ford was going to re-release Sonic Blue for the Mustang too, but ended up having enough Kona to make it through the year for Mustangs - however, the Focus was offered in Sonic Blue at that time.
