2012 order-bmw vs deer

Hey everyone,
I have been looking at ordering a 2013 when the order banks come open, and waiting with my car I have until the new one gets here, but I have a problem. I hit a deer on the way to my families house for thanksgiving and think my car is totaled. It was a 2003 BMW 3 series with 135k miles. Insurance hasn't said for sure but I think it will be. Looks like I may be ordering a 2012 instead. Reason I say ordering is because I only want Navigation and comfort access with a manual in kona blue. I don't want to spend more that I don't want if you understand what I'm saying. Does anyone know when the last day I can order a 2012?

Thanks for any help you can offer.

Sometime in January I believe. It's in another thread here. Sorry to hear about the Bimmer.

Actually, you may want to shop around your local dealers. Since it is the end of the year they are discounting '11 & '12 models. And, Ford may be giving cash back and low interest rates. You may be able to get a loaded '12 for the price of a '13 with few options. Also, dealers are more willing to deal as the New Year approaches.

Good luck! Hopefully you were not injured in your deer encounter.

Why not just get the check for whatever you can and patch that BMW up with junkyard parts and go with it until you can order what you want? Just make it functional and safe.

Last day to order is 1/12/12
but Kona blue will be balanced out in Dec. so you may or may not make it even if you order it today.

One thing you can do is get a beater to hold you over until you can get a 2012 or 2013. After all, winter is coming, so why ruin a perfectly good car in the crappy weather most people are going to see in the coming 4 months? Comb thru Craigslist/etc and get a car, place your 2013 order when you can, and continue to drive the beater until your 2013 is delivered (when the weather is turning warm and beautiful again).

Once you have your beater, you can take your time making your next move.

This is what I did when I broke my left (clutch) foot and required surgery earlier this year. I found a Toyota Corolla with A/C and automatic for $700, and sold my 2011 GT 'Vert 6MT. I still have the 'Yota, even tho I have had my 2012 GT 6AT since June. The Corolla now serves as my bad weather (and now Winter) beater.

^ what Eric said. When I ordered my '06 in Dec of '05 I bot a '95 grand prix for $300,
got my car end of March and sold the GP for $400.. plus I got to beat the living s*** out of it all winter as an extra added bonus.
Then you could order a '13.

Thanks for the advice everyone really helps. I will find out if the insurance company will total it soon hopefully but it looks it to me.

And yes no injuries to anyone except for the deer, it is dead, not sure male or female couldn't tell when I hit it.

Good choice,

But I would test drive a brembo equipped car, and a non-brembo equipped car and decide on that option too, its a great option for everything that you get especially with the new 2013 package.

If you think you might ever want HID's, go with that option now. It's only $595 on the order sheet. But to retrofit with OEM parts would run you over $2k from what I've seen.

Plus, I can't stand HID lights in non-HID housings. Good luck with your impending decision.

You got to keep the deer, right? Venison and deer sausage. Yum.

Unless you're vegetarian, of course. Then you can just sell it, I suppose. In any event, No sense in it goin' to waste...

/glad only the car and deer were hurt.
//14th-ed, I think, on the beater until '13 MY.

It looks like the airbags didn't deploy, if they didn't it may not be totalled. Im glad you weren't hurt. GL..

airbags did not deploy, but didn't make a difference, insurance company called me and they totaled the car. He quit counting at 70% of the value of the car which was 6500 and it is over that.

SOOOO..looks like new car is on the way. At this point I just want to get everything over with and settled in one car, so a new order may not happen. But we will see what is out there.

If it turns out that a new order is what I must do I have a family member that has an extra vehicle that they will loan me for a while, which is good means I dont have to buy a junker.

I have been looking at new cars on the dealers sites around me and having trouble finding what I want, Kona Blue, sterling gray, or silver( in that order) with navigation and comfort, and not every other option out there. We will have to see, at this point I hope I dont have to order but if I have to order to get what I want well, then I have to.

Anyways thanks for your advice everyone!

Dealers were unable to order nav cars for their lots a few months back. Not sure if that's still the case, might make it harder to find what you're looking for ...

unless youre in florida, the 13's might take a while to get...new models always get a rush at first... I really think I would get the kona 12 and order the 13 lights/bumper when they come out- just because I like the 12 frontend better...think it would be the best of both worlds, and Kona is a nice color!

Hey fluffybunny,

Welcome to the forum and glad to hear only the car and the deer were hurt and not you. You should speak to your Ford dealer and triple check for the options you’d like. Then I can help you find one on the lot or you can order from them and I can help you track it. Either way, I’m here to help.
