The more I want to wait the more I want it. 50th anniversary edition is limited with only 1964 built, and my local dealer has the kona manual trans that I really want, the dilemma is I have a glass roof loaded 12 GT with 17400 miles, am I trading it up too soon? its a bone stock car, no mods, with engine ticking.. will I regret if I dont act quick?

 

I'll tell you what my 15 year old son told me when I was undecided on trading my 09 GT with glass roof and a lot of mods for a new 13 Boss 302...."Dad, you know you really want it, so if you can afford it, get it...don't miss out"....he then added, you can always get another glass roof 09 and do it all over again, but there are only so many Boss 302's.....

So, if it's something you find yourself thinking about ALL the time, then I'd say go for it....those LE's will only be new once and there are only so many of them

You should look at what you want to do with the car if you get the 50th edition. Are you planning to daily drive it or keep it for a collectors car? I don't know if you would be worried about putting miles on the car and then you can't even enjoy it! Or is it the new style that you like? I wanted the 2015 style but I have a 2014.

 

Around here the premium on the 50th anniversary car is $25,000 over MSRP.

That says only what the list price is. I would not be surprised if you walked up and found a market adjustment sticker on it with a ridiculous price like this:

My issue is that it was made in 64 not 65. look back and all the anniversary models line up to make 50 years at 2014 not 2015. So question. is the 84, 94, 2004 models wrong? or just the 2015?

I agree with the previous poster who compared this to the Boss 302... There are only so many, and if that is what you want and you have the resources than go for it.

That said, I do not believe these anniversary editions will hold the value the same way the Bosses have. First, there really aren't any performance upgrades (correct me if I'm wrong), and the "cosmetic" special editions never seem to fare all that well as time goes on. Second, we can argue all we want about the front end of the '15, but I have to believe Ford will eventually listen to all the voices saying this is the weak point of the car aesthetically. As a result, in a couple model years, the front end will be at least tweaked into something everyone will like even better- which will position the anniversary models as the "pre-fixed" S550. Just my opinion, and worth less than $0.02.

You are, of course, correct- there was no '64 1/2 Mustang, the original year of the car was 1965 (just released a bit early).


However, that doesn't change the fact that the 50th rendition of the Mustang was the 2014 (simple math). The 2015 is the 51st Ford Mustang- the only thing 50th about it is Ford's desire to hype the introduction of a new platform (and there's nothing wrong with that- the original Mustang was primarily marketing-driven as well).

 

Except the 45th anniversary was in 2009, the 40th in 2004, the 35th in 1999, ect. It doesn't really make a difference, it's just inconsistent with what Ford has done in the past.

 

OP, if its that important to you to have the 50th anniversary, go for it. If your purchase is solely based on the hopes this is going to be some type of collector pony, you may want to rethink that. It ain't gonna be worth a bunch of loot.

The 1964.5 Mustang was a 1965 model year, and always was. Only us enthusiasts make a big deal about it, if we make a big deal at all.

But consider... they made a 2015 model (50 years apart), with a 50th edition car...

In **2014**. 2015 is 10 days away yet (as of this posting). Varilux has it right.

They did just fine, Ford did. This is not a nit to pick, IMO.
