I would bet the farm on the car weighing less than 3500. 3750 is WAY too high.

On Wikipedia it says the 3.7L weighs 40 lbs less than the 4.0.
It would've been great if they just replaced the 4L with the 3.7...
Too bad the transmission weighs more, and oh yeah the driveshaft, rear end, exhaust, front brakes, swaybars, the conv. frame, etc.. any gain in HP is gonna be canceled out by all the extra weight .

It's true that the weight savings of the new engine will almost certainly be canceled out by the heavier exhaust system, transmission, etc. But you think the horsepower gain will be nullified by the heavier weight of these new components? The 3.7 makes 45% more horsepower than the 4.0. The Mustang would have to gain about 1500 pounds to keep the same power to weight ratio as the 2010. Just what materials to you think Ford will be using to make the new transmission, etc? Gold? Lead? Uranium, perhaps?

Not a chance. The total weight gain will be less than 100 lbs. That is based on the curb weight of the 2010 V6 with manual trans being 3400-3420 lbs depending on options, and Ford saying the 2011 V6 with performance package will weigh less than 3500 lbs. The performance package V6's will likely be the heaviest V6 manual trans Mustangs due to the larger and heavier 19" wheels and tires and other suspension goodies. Just run the weight to horsepower ratios of the cars. 90 lbs isn't going to cancel out the extra 90 hp.

I've read with the 40 or so pounds lighter engine and the extra weight of the dual exhaust added to the rear, the 2011 V-6 Mustang was going to be close to 50/50 weight distribution.

If the 3.7's essentially gonna be the same as a GT (only with a V6), then why would anyone buy it when they could just buy a 2010 with a 4.6?
Same car with 10 more HP & 45 more pound-feet of torque.
And the '10 GT will prob be cheaper

Your right on the money there. For what you will be able to pick up a '11 V6 for you can be driving a '10 GT. Plus it will sound like it has 300+ hp and not have that V6 sound.

Because you won't get 30 MPG with a '10 GT. Plus I don't the '10 GT Base will drop from $28k down to the $20-22K range where the base '11 V6 will be...

It's almost there now, you can buy a GT for 25k (xplan & 2k rebates) and that's now, imagine in May when the 11's are out, also no way in a million years will you'll get 30mpg, i have a '10 Fusion 2.5 DI and my avg is 26mpg (the sticker says 34) and that car weighs 3205lbs

Well maybe the price will drop that low...It'll be a tough choice for sure!

dealer here already said they will be likely selling base 2010 gt's for 20-22k once the 2011s hit the lot.

With the V-6's 305 horsepower, the 30 highway m.p.g. is icing on the cake. You never know if gas prices are going to go crazy and sky rocket to record highs in the near future or not.

I've personally recorded as high as 26 MPG in my 2007 Mustang GT on my back-and-forth commute to-and-from work, and I wasn't even really trying. Couple that with what many believe will be excellent deals on remaining 2010 GT's (I mean, come on, a 412 horsepower GT is on the way) and a 2010 GT may be the better deal after all. Plus, you can't even begin to replicate the intoxicating V8 rumble with a V6, no matter how much power it makes.

Good deals will be out there I'm sure!

I posted this on another thread...

I got 30.3mpg...

Conditions: flat road, 4,1xx miles. Half tank of gas. RPM's were at 1,700. A/C was at 2 o'clock (near the warmer side). 38 degrees out. Air flow was on the first nub. I even had an extra 20-30lbs in my trunk...

Sooooooo... IDK should I be impressed that the 2011 v6 get's a PROJECTED 30mpg when meanwhile I can attain it in my 2010 GT??? I know it's "neither here nor there" sorta info when talking about it... But figured I'd just throw it out there.
So yea, achieving good mpg is totally plausible. Obviously the 2011 v6 will be more readily attainable at getting it, but still and all... take from it what you will.

If i can get a very good deal on a 2010 GT, i might consider it. I looked on the Camaro forum to see how their V-6 gas mileage is working out. A lot of them are only getting 22 to 23 mpg. Some of them are wishing they had gotten an SS because they aren't getting any where near the 29 mpg the V-6 is suppose to get.

I hope i don't end up in a nut house over trying to decide on what to do LOL!!!

I believe that it's all in how you drive the car. I think that it all comes down to acceleration. If you are hard on the gas going on a freeway or from stop light to stop light you will obviously get poor mileage. It's very common for someone to drive aggressive with these cars. It's hard to resist the temptation of all those horses under the hood (even in the V6's!). I believe that the camaro could easily reach in estimated 29 mpg. Just shift early, accelerate slowly and even use cruise control. But, it's even easier/funner to achieve 10mpg :-)
