2011 Redline

So what's the redline on these cars?

I keep seeing conflicting reports of 6800, 6850, and 7000 rpm for the V6 and GT.

7000 for both accoriding to Fords releases. The pictures of the gauges do show the red marking on the tach beginning at 6500, not that this means that is the actual redline.

Do you mean the "red line" on the tachometer, or the rev limiter for the engine? Those are usually two different numbers.

I had read somewhere that the hard redline was 7K, don't know if that means that is the point when the fuel is cut-off completely or what. Maybe there is a "soft" redline at 6850 or whatever where it starts to cut the fuel and timing.

I guess I think of redline as the rated max safe RPM. A somewhat subjective number chosen by the manufacturer. I usually expect that number to correspond with the "red line" on the tach; otherwise, as far as I'm concerned, the tach is colored wrong. The rev-limiter and fuel shutoff may or may not be at the rated redline, but I would generally expect them to be slightly above redline.

It's looking like the redline on the tach is about 6800. I think the fuel shut-off is at 7k. That would make sense.

Maybe the 6,800 rpm "Red Line" on the tach is better thought of as an "Orange Line," i.e., "y'er git'n close to grenading yer motor, but not yet." The ECU will put the pin back in the pineapple at 7K.

I know the 3V starts reeling in about 250 before redline and the limiter cuts out. Some of the Bullitt guys would have the tuners bump it to 6800 so you could get full performance up to the B's 6500 redline.

So on the 3V Bullitt if one installs the delete plates there's no reason to have a tuner bump the redline above 6500 to get a full pull?

i read on the original reviews of the engine development team, they put it through some EXTREME testing..
thinkg like feezing the motor to -40F then redlining for 20 minutes then freezing it back to -40f. over an over again. but one of the extreme tests was pushing the car past red line.. very easily done in a manual trans..

give you an example..

my first car ( dont flame me) when i was 17 was an 88 iroc z bought new.. ( showing my age )..

when getting on an on ramp racing some friend i was in thrid gear doing about 100mph i looked over my shoulder to get onto the high way AS i was shifting into 4th.. didnt relize i pulled the shifter into 2nd dropped the clutch.

to say the least..the tach hit the safty pin ( set around 7k) bending 8 of 16 valves..
still ran a 14.6 on the track later on that morning..

what i read they pushed the new 5.0 into the 8k range and past.. (" we put the engine through normal real world testing" and " some things that just happen" para phrasing)
