2011 Mustang V6 questions
Seriously considering ordering a Base Mustang Mustang with the performance package and security package. I have been looking to buy a pony for a while. Now this will be my everyday driver for 4 seasons, including the winter. Anywho, in my search I have driven a 10 LT Camaro, 09 CHallenger SE, 10 Mustang GT and 10 Challenger R/T Classic. My choice at that point was the Challenger. I know it's big and not nearly as quick as the 11 5.0, but it struck me as the most comfortable everyday driver for me (roughly 80 miles a day) and had that awesome looks and nice room and the Hemi sounded great and was peppy, the Mustang was a close second. The Camaro was a fine drive, but with the interior and compromised sitelines it just didn't strike a codr especially for something I would be in roughly 2 hours a day. Now here is my issue. To get the R/T it would require me to save up for a year or 2 to get it into a comfportable payment range while the V6 Mustang is an amazing performer at a very affordable price. I am thinking gay like the one on the commercial as I LOVE that look. Anywho, to the questions.
Has anyone ran their 6er in the 1/4 mile? I won't do a lot of racing, but do enjoy the occasional test and tune at the nearest track (3 hours away).
How is the Mustang in the snow?
I know I will need different tires, with the GT brakes on the perf. pack. is an 18 inch rim the smallest that will fit (for snow tires).
What kind of fuel mileage is everyone getting, especially with the 8 speed/3.31 gears?
From the order guide am I right the job 2 cars won't start being built until 8/16ish? Deliver in mid september to early october?
Tia for any and all answer!

Thats what I am waiting for .My dealer is ordering 2 of them. (Sunrise Ford North Hollywood Ca.) On a lighter note I saw a sweet 2010 Kona blue Base GT Premium 5sp inside Costco in Pacoima Calif today. What a nice looking ride.I guess they have a car buying promotion going. Anyway sweet ride none the less. Cant wait to drive a 2011 V6 W/the P/p Pkg.

I think there are a lot of us waiting for the V6 + performance pack. I drove a v6 manual at the dealership this week to see what is to be expected for when the performance pack is available. I'll say I am coming from a Stage 2 (downpipe + tune) modified 2003 Subaru Impreza WRX with suspension upgrades as well. I only drove the mustang a few miles. The interior was really nice, I was impressed. The transmission throws were short and to the point, which I liked. However I feel I was sitting kind of high, but maybe there is a way to adjust, I don't know because I didn't try. I am going to leave off a handling judgment because it was soft and the performance pack will be different. Braking and steering, can't say anything bad. On to acceleration. I was able to hit the highway with an empty on-ramp. I will say that I wasn't impressed. Although the salesman was. I didn't feel the seat-of-your-pants torque spike like the in Impreza when the turbo spools as you hit the 3-4k rpms. Higher in the powerband wasn't lacking power and it did get up to speed pretty quickly. City driving I was expecting a little more torque down low, but the car is heavy and its no V8. I really want to see a dyno graph of the V6. The clutch was grabby and hard to be smooth, but I am sure it just needed broken in.
On paper the V6 performance pack is a stellar deal. (according to CD) 0-60 in 5.4, .95g skidpad and 70-0 in 152 feet is right on par with a base 2007 Porsche Cayman, for less than half the cost. It is slower than a new Impreza, but it handily out-handles and out-brakes the Impreza, for around the same money. I am considering order one, but I still have time to decide. Hope this helps.
EDIT: I've seen a lot of Mustang's in the snow. This car should be even better with the LSD + traction control. It depends on your climate, but I wouldn't be driving this car in snow above 3-4", but it's been done before and I doubt you'll have too hard of a time with snow tires on some used rims.

controler,
Do you remember if the car you drove had the 3.31 rear end? I test drove two V6's and pretty much came to the same conclusion as you in terms of acceleration but they were automatics with 2.73 axle. Hoping I can eventually test drive one with an standard shift and 3.31 rear axle.

Newpony, I'm not sure. It stickered in the low 24's, but it could have had the security package or power/heated seats. It was just a quick test drive, I wasn't there longer than 30 minutes. I want to drive a 5.0 to compare but they didn't have any yet.

Ah,
Must likely it was basic with security package and 2.73 rear axle. Supposedly the 3.31 rear axle (included in the performance package) really makes a big different in the acceleration and the power feel. I have to believe that because after test driving the Mustang I test drove a Fusion Sport. That car has less horsepower and torque than the V6 Mustang but it definitely felt quicker specially from stop. The Fusion Sport has a 3.31 rear axle.
I'm not planning on driving my Mustang in the snow. Keeping my current 2000 Honda Accord coupe as my winter beater and hope to find a affordable garage to keep my Mustang during winter. However I'm still planning on buying winter tires in case my Honda brakes down and for the occasional nice day out trip (dry and sunny).

The performance package is so sweet I just wish that one ford would have made it available with the mca package without having to get a premium because a pp mca base car would be sick, and two that it actually would have had something more in the hp department due to it being called a performance package I mean come on how hard would it have been to drop a filter in and change the tune&mufflers to ad say 10-15 more hp and a meaner sound to go with the meaner wheels&hanlding just my .02c
Edit on topic I averaged 25.3 mpg on my first tank lots of stop and go and it looks like 27.1 on my second tank some stop and go a few straight highway runs* I drive 17 miles one way to work everyday and its about 4 miles in town and 13 highway so all in all impressive considering that my 2010 4.0 auto never got better than 21 and my 2010 4.0 5-speed manual never got better than 22.8. I fully expect to average in the high 26 low 27mpgs which is the same as my little sisters 2006 nissan altima gets we work at the same place just different hours*which annoys the crap out of her because I use it as a perfectly legitimate excuse for her to get a mustang since the mileage is the same plus should look a lot cooler in one

I fit 17" rims on my 2010 GT with room to spare- same brake setup as the 2011 V6...
Made a great winter performer, of course some times are a lil more squirrelly than others, but I handled solid 6-8 inches of snow covered roads pretty well- with proper caution, speed, and distance. It's no 4x4 but with the right setup it can do well in the winter months.

The gray is very good looking. I was dead set against a black, white, silver, or gray car and liked kona blue the best. A close second was gray though. It's the only color which I think stripes work without being too obvious.

What brand and size tires do you use for winter?

Wao if you can handle 6-9 inches of snow with a GT, then I shouldn't have a problem handling snow plowed roads with a V6. Here in Massachusetts the government do a good job keeping the main roads clean during and after a snow storm. That is one of the reasons I'm leaning towards Performance Winter tires instead of Stud-less Winter tires. Also if is there going to be a big snow storm I usually stay home anyways. However if I can find an affordable garage for winter I'll rather keep my car there and only take it out on nice days.

The funny thing is, before last year I wouldn't have worried about the winter as we got a most 2-3 small snows per year for the last almost 20 years, but we got hit hard last year. luckily my current vehicle is an 07 Jeep Patriot, probably the best snow vehicle I have ever had, alas it would be traded for the Mustang. I have thought about an older Jeep Cherokee for winter driving or an older subaru outback, but just don't know if the finances would be there. Usually though the biggest issue is icy roads and the mountains I have to cross going back and forth.
