2011 Mustang pricing

Seems like there are already a bunch of dealers throwing discounted prices out there. New year model cars never used to be advertised below MSRP, at least not the last time I was seriously looking at new cars. Has it become almost universally the rule that the dealers have to start out from the get-go with advertised discount prices?

Just looking at cars.com and there are already a bunch of 2011 cars listed on there that are $2K or more off of sticker. Just as an example, there is a premium race red MCA coupe, MSRP is $28,610, and it is advertised at $26,330, over $2K off and the new modrl year has just started.

As hot as the 2011 Mustang is, it just seems off to me that the are already advertised at discount prices.

I mean, discounted price is fine but to do the discount right off wthout any haggling is just un-American...

Now, if they are going to do such discounts on there advertised prices then they better expect to discount them even more for ME!

Maybe this is just a late night rant and I need to turn the tube off, throw the last bottle in the trash can and go to bed...

I wonder if it has to do with dealer allocation. Maybe they're trying to sale some to get more stangs, but I could be wrong. Anyways, the dealerships here have been keeping their prices at msrp unless you're ordering

I have only seen MSRP on the lot. Now in recent years I have noticed that the "Internet Sales" departments are having a bit of leeway more so now then ever. Internet car sales are huge and has become a big business so they are looking for the best opportunity to lure in a new buyer. Also, upto date buyers are also more internet savvy so they know what the cars are going for. With this forum I'd be clueless as to what the invoice prices are and how to negotiate with dealers. So in a time of internet knowledge, dealers have to understand the customer.

Personally I enjoy dealing with internet sales much more than the sales floor. There are just a ton of resources out there to be used as tools for buying cars now. MSRP or dealer mark ups work for the typical and uneducated customer just walking on the lot unknowing to the idea of what the true price could be. Like it used to be back in the day.

Well if you consider that Ford has been doing the Friends and Family pricing deal regularly every July, people have come to expect it and are holding off on their purchases. To me it would make sense to offer 2k$ off before the sale because they can get more money for it now.
