2011 GT vs 2010 GT500?
#22
Take them both for a drive and buy the car that feel right to you. That's what I did. I drove a new 2011 5.0 GT and it's a very sweet car. But when I got into the 2010 GT500 and took it for a drive I just felt more connected to the car. With no discount offered on the 2011 GT and a good discount on the 2010 GT500 ($12,000 difference) I went with the GT500 and I'm very pleased with my choice. Both are awesome cars and you can't go wrong either way.

And I think the dealer I ordered from finally got a 5.0 GT in today.
And no one at the dealership can tell me why, 6 weeks after I placed an order, I don't even have so much as a VIN yet.

That seems to be a common problem. I have a friend that ordered a Kona Blue 2011 GT back in Feb and does not have it yet, they're telling him mid June. But they are popping up on lots everywhere. I'm way to impatient to do a factory order. I always buy lot stock. Instant gratification. lol
I can't believe dealers that don't let people drive the cars!?!? My dealer was awesome. I had no intentions of buying a car the day that I walked into Brown Bros Ford in Vancouver. But my sales guy was awesome and made the process very easy and actually enjoyable. After I drove the 5.0 we walked by the row of 6 GT500's they had and I commented how awesome they looked. He looks at me and says Ï'll grab the keys and you can take one out for a spin". Well how could I resist. lol Later that evening I was driving home in my new 2010 GT500.

Booo, that's the problem. My local Ford dealers don't have a GT500, and if they did, they wouldn't let you drive it.

I think one reason dealers are reluctant to let people drive cars (unless they're really serious) is their location. I know that may sound like a BS excuse, but I know my dealer is on a busy street with 10 other car dealerships. It's pretty close to the freeway, but it's an extremely busy location and I was nervous enough driving the 09 and 10 I drove around there. I'd be scared ****less driving a GT500 in that area. It's just too congested to drive a 500+ hp car that's not mine. But really, if you are really looking to make a purchase, they have to let you test drive. Period. I have a good relationship with our salesman, and consider him a family friend, so I can go in and drive whatever I want, whenever I want, but I still am scared to test drive cars around the area. And the dealership is around the corner from my house, so I know the area well. I just don't trust 90% of the drivers in this area.

Personally i'd go for the GT500, the shelby, to me at least, and I'm sure I'm not the only one, stands out as more of an enthusasts car, a bit more special.
Both are going to be great cars to own and drive
I really regret not buying a GT500 now, I should know myself better by my age :-) I try to do the sensible thing and save few grand, then spend months wishing I'd done the fun thing

So why do you already have a VIN and build date and I don't?

So I have a 2011 candy red convertible on order (6 weeks and no VIN).
Now I am starting to think about a 2010 GT500 instead. I figured out that, at the right price, the difference in cost with tax (8.625% here in NY) is about $15,000, which, while high, will not break me. OTOH, I can have the 2010 as soon as I can go get it from where ever it is.
Is it worth the difference? I don't track or strip the car, and very lightly mod, if at all.
Opinions?

2011 GT500, so worth it. the 2011 laps VIR 9 seconds faster than the 2010 (faster than the non-ACR Viper or the Audi R8 V10!) with more time left to shave, watch the video below. Lighter, faster, gets better mileage.

Here is the only review I have seen of the 2011 GT500, why are there not any real, instrumented tests yet? Car and Driver or something?
