This car is just as old, and it GOES too.

Not pointing fingers but there seems to be a lot of Freudian penile issues surfacing. It's tough to adapt, I understand, just look at Southwest Asia. I'm sure at one point Enzo Ferrari said we just can't do any better than this 250 GTO, and alas look only a few years down the road to F40. Well, it's just another Ferrari. So maybe that's a bit drastic, but I think we get the point.

If you are also going to talk modded cars with the GT500, how about modded 2011 GT.
For $8k the 2011 GT can be had with 625 hp. And with another $3k in suspension mods and a grand in better tires, the 2011 GT will say goodbye to your GT500 and still be thousands less.

Part of the price you pay for a GT500 is for the name, and part for the rare-ness.
But you can take a plain jane GT for a lot less money and beat it performance wise because you aren't paying for the name.

But I also know the 2011 GT puts a smile on my face too.

Let's agree to disagree on this one.
I'm happy you like your 2008 GT500, and I'm super happy with my 2011 GT, even though I could of easily bought a 2011 GT500.
The buyer should drive each and decide for himself.

I'm not sure if you're talking about a new GT500, but an '08 or even '09 GT500 can be bought for around 30k, which is less than the 5.0 right?

As for the 2011 GT "saying goodbye" to a gt500 for thousands less I think you're off base if you're talking about the 07-09 models. I'm not sure about the new models though.

As for the "name" and "rare-ness" (rarity I think is what you were looking for here ) I totally agree with that if you're talking early '07 and even maybe '08, back then people were crazy paying 10k or more over for the car because it was a "Shelby." A lot of people thought they were going to get rich from buying on and storing it... they were wrong.

But nowadays it's just not like that. Yes there are some people that WOULD be willing to pay for the "Shelby" name... but a new GT500 can be had for under MSRP very easily.

You're paying for a 5.4 liter mill that simply is a better platform. The new motor has an aluminum block so the weight difference isn't really a penalty anymore.

Stock it posts numbers higher than the 5.0 and if you add a pulley and tune the game is over.

The compression ratio on the 5.0 alone won't allow much boost, so even if you could reach 625hp it's anyone's guess how long it will hold up.

The 5.4 is designed for boost. It has Ford GT heads which were designed for boost. That's a huge advantage when you're talking about slapping a blower on the 5.0

The 5.4 has consistently run over 700 rwhp on many many cars with a blower upgrade only. That's a whole lot more at the crank so it's really not a fair comparison.

The 5.0 is an awesome car and a MASSIVE upgrade from the previous mill. I wish my '06 came with it

But you're talking apples and oranges when comparing these two motors.

The rest of the platform is identical as someone previously stated. The iron blocks in the 07-09 GT500s are definitely nose-heavy and the 5.0 would likely run rings around the 07-09 GT500 on a track (on a track with curves that is )

For the new model GT500 with the aluminum engine... I'd guess the results would be different.
