2011 GT vs 2008 Shelby GT500
NO Contest, in REALITY it's all About the LOW ET, and the 2011GT's DEAD HOOK, and simply run Better ET's, and at the End of the day thats what 90% of guys want!!! Hell I'm doing high1.9's/2.0's with my Auto Vert (Mid 12's) with the Stock tires....
Id get the GT500 without a second thought, but I would be modding it for sure. I also don't like how the new body style looks so maybe I'm slightly biased lol. He probably would be happier with a 2011 V6/GT if he doesn't care about racing or modding and just wants a nice daily driver
i agree 100%. the 5.0 cyote puts out a little less power but it makes up for it with balance and ride quality. not to mention the warranty is godly. i got the premium on mine. cost 3k extra but for the next 75k or 5 years all maitnence is free at a ford dealership. the gt500 cant offer that.
The "top dog" 07-09 GT500 got ripped apart by testers, the 2011 GT with Brembo brake package has received nothing but the complete opposite.
It may be the "top dog" of the Mustang hill, but the 07-09 "top dog" will get it's butt kicked by it's little, younger brother in a contest of overall performance and preference by just about any racer or tester.

This is because you've never driven one! The 011 GT's are nice but the GT500 still rules.
Lol I find it funny all the fighting between 05-09 and the 10-11 like it's some revolutionary new design. it's all the same chassis. Sure the 2011 is a better performer from the factory and it better be for what it costs. but the previous cars do just as well or better with a couple mods
The GT and GT500, no matter what year are just made to do completely different things and act a different way.
Brand spanking new, the 08 GT500 is a nice car, I just looked at one about a month ago. Much nicer than an 08 GT. The car looks mean and is very attention grabbing. Just can't miss the trademarks of the GT500 and the SHELBY across the back. For those features and the roaring 5.4L, It's a sweet ride. I would still rather have a GT/SC but that's just me.
All in all the 2011 GT has proven its worth in more ways than one. I'd much rather have the new quicker revving 5.0L with a much more nimble steering system and new interior goodies. Not to mention all the raves the new GT has received. It would be a tough call, 2011 GT to GT500 given they are still different machines. I might have to go 2011 GT500 because I think it's even better looking and far better performing than the 08. Sounds like its better off than the Super Snake as well.

LOL! Well I'm old enough to own a GT500. Lot's of jealous folks around here...and one thing they all have in common is they don't own a GT500, coincidence? I think not! :lol
If dealers weren't so dead set on charging $5-20k over when the 2007's and even 2008's came out I'd have one.
But track times and performance results speak for themselves, and then there are the words of professional track drivers that speak loud and clear too.

And in those regards, the 2011 GT outperforms the 07-09 GT500.
The 2011 Gt with Brembo brake package runs with the e92 M3 with Competition Package in every performance test. The 07-09 GT500 can't keep pace with the normal e92 M3.
The 2010 GT500 will out run the 2011 GT and M3 ZCP on the track and the 2011 GT500 do so even more.
2011 GT500 > 2010 GT500 > 2011 GT with Brembo package > 07-09 GT500
when it comes to stock overall performance.
Do you really think a car with an extra 300+ lbs, all mostly over the front end (07-09 GT500) will handle and brake as well as the car with 300 or so less pounds over the front axle (2011 GT) and the same brakes?
Have you driven a 2011 GT with Brembo brake package?
'11 GTs cost the same or more than a used GT500. I think you're confusing jealousy with choosing to buy something else.
I could of paid cash for a 2011 GT500, but it didn't make sense.
The acceleration performance of the GT500 can nearly be had on the 2011 GT with a few grand in mods (intake, exhaust, headers, tune).
The 2011 GT already has the GT500's brakes, and since the GT weighs 200 lbs less than the 2011 GT500, which do you think brakes better?
The 2011 GT still has a better weight distribution than the GT500, so with equal tires, which do you think will handle better?
And with $3k in suspension upgrades to the 2011 GT, the GT will also handle better.
So you'd have a nearly equal accelerating car, with better braking and better handling in the 2011 GT with about $5-6k in mods into it.
So other than some other minor things, why spend $49k on the GT500 when you for $34k and $5-6k in mods (or about $40k invested), I'd put my money on the GT around any track in the country over the GT500.
Heck you could even have the $53k GT500 with SVT PP and I'd still put my money on the 2011 GT as long as the 2011 GT gets to have the same tires.
Then there is the bonus of better gas mileage, and cheaper insurance on the GT too. The only thing on the GT500 I'd really like to have on a GT is it's tranny.
Beefier than the GT's and that is a plus.
Yes actually I have, but it was a brief drive and not pushed.

A FRPP handling pack, better gripping tires and a few tweaks to a motor that has limitless ability to mod and you're 011 GT is, well....it's just another GT. There are GT's ALL OVER the street, you don't see many GT500's.
I also never got ripped off by the dealer. I bought my 08 new and the price was discounted 13k (Canadian) with rebates and employee pricing.
Nobody is attacking anybody else.
As you pointed out we are just making are points for each car.
The GT500 is bad-**** to be sure.
And was worth the price difference in the 07-09 models.
The 2010 GT with track pack moved the regular GT closer, but the power and brakes still weren't there.
The 2011 GT with Brembo brake package made it so it didn't really make the extra $15-18K for the GT500 "worth" it to many, including me.
But on topic.
I still stand by my point, get the new 2011 GT over a used 2008 GT500 if the price is about the same.
+1

Hey, get what you want, that's all that should matter. But try to run down a GT500 by saying you can mod a GT to be like it. There is not much chance of that. The GT500 is almost limitless for what you can do to mod that car- far beyond what any GT could handle.
The GT is a fine car but it's "common", I want to have what few people have, I want a unique car.
Actually the choice should be the BUYERS, the guy should test drive them both and get what he likes. I know which car puts a smile on my face that won't come off.
