2011 GT 500 SVT
2011 GT 500 SVT
Hey guys… I’m fairly new here to this forum, anyways...
I’ve always liked mustangs & recently have been really looking into getting one. I went to my local dealership & test drove a 2014 GT. It is a very nice car, I left the salesman with a down payment for the car as I was heading to South Korea a couple days later. During my trip to SK I thought about it & decided not to get the GT at this time… I really wanted the car, but I was trying to save for a home etc, etc…
Now comes the good part… A friend of mine owns a car dealership. He has a 2011 GT 500 SVT on his lot. I believe when I test drove it last week it had 2700 miles on it. It is the dark grey without any stripes on it, very nice looking.
But I couldn’t tell that it was any faster than the stock GT.
Shouldn’t there be a noticeable difference in the two cars?

A supercharged 2011 Shelby should be MUCH faster than a GT. however, if its an earlier Shelby it is from what I have seen almost identical to a GT. double check the year and if its the 5.4 or 5.8 engine
If the 2014 GT had the 3.73 rear gears I could see how it would feel similar on a "normal" test drive. But like others have said, once you get up a head of steam the 2011 GT500 would definitely have the upper hand.
That being said, if you put the same blower on the '14 as on the '11 GT500, the '14 will come out ahead.
Love the SGM and stripe delete on the GT500 though! But I'm a little biased...

Forced induction cars typically respond well to tuning and exhaust work. With the supercharger, going to a different pulley will increase boost so that's the easiest way to add power. I came from turbo cars which are a bit different, but tuning goes a long way. I like the lighter weight and instant response of the 5.0 engine but for acceleration the Shelby with a few upgrades is insane
Like a previous poster stated, that older mustang is heavier and doesn't handle as nice in the turns. Look at reviews online. The GT is a bit more nimble if you're not all about straight line acceleration. The GT also gets better mileage, but if you want more horsepower - look at the 2013 or newer Shelby. There was a big bump in HP going from 2012 to 2013.
