2011 5.0 & GT500 reliable??
I have the opportunity in purchasing a 2011 mustang gt500 with 18k miles. My question is,does it have any problems like recalls or lemon? I herd the 2011 5.0 came out with a defective manual transmission. Does any one know if the gt500 comes out with a defetive manual also? Oh and one more question,I also have the oppertunity to purchase a 2011 mustang gt 5.0 automatic does any one know if the 2011 5.0s came out with any problems? Becasue if they do I would just rather buy a 2012,I'm guessing ford fixed all the bullsh*t in 2012.

I think he was being sarcastic. The 2011 GT500 and 2011 GT 5.0 are spectacular performance value cars. This was probably the most significant mid-cycle-refresh (MCR) for the Mustang in 20+ years. GT500 got 50 more horsepower, GT 5.0 got a completely new motor and 100 more horsepower. Both got brand new 6-speed transmissions. The interiors were completely revised and improved. The suspensions and brakes on both cars were re-worked and improved. All of the major car magazines went nuts over these two cars, because they easily won every comparison they were placed into. You can't go wrong with a used 2011 GT500 or GT 5.0, IMO.

So I dont have to worry about the transmission being defective? Great news. Oh and is the clutch stiff in the new gt500? I owned a 03 cobra and the clutch was ridiculous. I drove the 2012 boss and the clutch was a dream.

I would be leery about buying a GT500 that new with that many miles on it already, unless it was a private seller or if a dealer they would let me contact the previous owner so I could talk to them personally about the car and see what kind of person they appeared to be. If it has more than one owner, I'd probably stay away from it altogether, never know what kind of person had it and how much its been beaten on.
And the clutch in the 500 is very light, extremely easy even in traffic. And that's from someone with a bum knee.

Here we go again. I'm interested in what bullsh*t you speak of cause all I know is the bullsh*t that spreads on the web.
To the OP: The 2011 GT500 is your best bet unless you hold out for the 13 GT500. No major concerns to speak of. SVT built so it has all the good stuff. Brand new 5.0 GT still doesn't compare to the Shelby.
Problems with the MT82 in the GT are somewhat over discussed. Some folks have had legitimate issues but the vast, vast majority are totally fine. The transmission is widely praised in the magazines for satisfying throws and weight and it's used in the Boss 302 with great results.
Either car will likely be fine. The usual checks for wear and abuse would be advisable...especially with high performance cars.

For the OP, the 5.0L's manual trans isn't awesome, but it's not bad. These cars are tough, so you can't go wrong with any '11+ 5.0L or GT500.

Both cars are great machines. Dont worry about reliability issues and just enjoy them. Spend less time on the internet and more laying rubber on the pavement.

Thanks for all the info guys, really appriciate it. Im gonna do some research on the gt500. I have droven a 2012 gt with an auto and a 2012 boss. I fell in love with the manual transmission, the clutch felt great and it feels great when you shift. I want a manual Im just worried about all the bad reviews. I just saw the new mustang saleen
