2010 Model Year Mustang GT 9k off sticker
If you can believe it, a nearby dealer still has a 2010 GT for sale. I am leery because the 2012 Mustangs are now arriving. But it has all the goodies I want 19" rims, 3.73 axle, premier trim with color accent, HID headlamps, etc. I was looking at the 2011 V6 Mustangs, but this is cheaper and sound nicer. Should I run away because it has been on the dealer lots for so long?

I wouldn't run away from it persae, but I'd seriously consider your other options, and weigh what is most important to you.
1. You should be able to get a brand new 2011 V6 for roughly that same price (brand new ones selling for 20k all day).
2. You can get a brand new 2011 V8 for a few thousand more
If you're good with that, then I'd go for it. Personally I'd have to get a 2011 5.0...but it's all a matter of what you're looking for .

I know the performance is similar and the mileage is better, but I drive about 4k miles per year. Plus by the time you add the interior options the V6 is at least 2k-3k more money. The only miles on the car are from test drives.

The '10 GT is a good looking car and has a 4.6L 3V that is at the pinnacle of its development. 325hp on premium fuel (315hp on 87 octane) is plenty powerful for most people.

I got a great deal on a used 2010 premium glass roof electronics package etc. Paid whole sale price for it and started modding it. When you look at it what does three tenths of a second mean to you ? Or two tenths? A 5.0 at 4.4 a Shelby at 4.2 seconds. A 2010 at 4.6-7 seconds to 60? Great sound do some mods a tune etc save some cash for a rainy day get the 10. Lets not forget the lowly 2010 beat the competition in magazine tests even giving up 100 hp to the camaro and challenger.

There are quite a few 2010's left, even some 2009's and I've even seen a 2008 recently.
If they are willing to take that much off of sticker I would even try and offer them less. You never know, they might grab the money and run. Worst they could do is say no.

Sometimes you can get a heck of a deal on a brand new 1.5 year old car. Several years ago my mom got a brand new Lincoln LS for several thousand off the sticker. The reason it hadn't sold? It was the last year of the 252 hp 3.9L V8, and the next year's model made 280 hp, as I recall. The car has been great and still purrs like a kitten.

I would think you could get more than $9K off. I got Almost $8K off mine when I bought it new in 2010. Make certain the dealer changes all the filters and lubricants, the engine oil/filter especially.

I would offer them 12K off sticker, if they want to get rid of it they will bite. If not they tell them 10K off the sticker price. Nonetheless you will be getting an awesome car.

That sounds pretty good, but I think you might be able to get it even cheaper, like the other guys suggested above. $8K off sticker was my target for a 2010 GT a year ago, I think you (hopefully) can do better than that now.
Gas mileage on the 2010 GT can be better than you might think, the advantage for the 2011 V6 is not as big as the ratings might suggest . . . I get 27-28 MPG on my highway / backroads cruising commute with the 3.31 gears in mine. (this commute is probably close to the best possible, very few stoplights and mostly flat cruising)
I looked at the 2011 V6 when I bought my 2010 GT . . . once I drove them both, there was no contest.
I wouldn't worry too much about it being on the lot for a long time. It has probably had a few test drives, you can only hope they pushed the car a little (not too much) on those test drives so it got a decent break in. Like the other guy said, make sure they change all the fluids. It will have full warranty so if there are any issues they can be fixed. (yes that is a hassle if needed)
Yeah the 2011/2012 has 100 more HP, and I'm sure that would be fun . . . but for practical purposes the 315 of the 2010 is more than I can usually use anyway.

The '10 GT is a great car. One thing it will do for you that the 2011/12 V6 cannot is that awesome 'bark' when you start it and that orgasmic sound coming from the tailpipes. I would definitely consider it seriously.

I would not be afraid of it. If it has the options and color you want, I would definitely take a 2010 GT over a 2012 V6. The 3.7 V6 is great, but the 4.6 V8 is better in every way, except for fuel economy, and the real world MPG difference may not be as bad as you think.
That written, I would want at least $10,000 off sticker, as it's a two year old car. $12,000 off would be better and is what I would offer them initially. Make sure they change all the fluids, give you the full manufacturers warranty, and check the car over thoroughly.

I have enjoyed my 2010 GT non-stop. I recognize the engine is less powerful, but the sound and torque on 87 octane fuel is much fun in around-town driving.

I bought a 2010 SHO recently that had been on the lot for 13 months.
I was researching the used car prices for 2010 SHOs and the deal I got on mine was below what used cars were selling for. It was about at trade in value for the car. At that point i couldnt resist.
Now i got about $11k off of sticker but then again they are not delivering 2012 SHOs right now like they are Mustangs. So with 2012 models on the lot I'd think you could save a little more than $9k.
But check the current trade in values on equally equipped used cars and see wherits at compared to the price they are asking.

Bought my '10 GT Premium w/TrakPac in APR10 for 7300k less then MSRP. Go for at least 10k off sticker.
One thing hasn't been mentioned yet, the new made in China 6-speed skip shift having issues, don't think they have that one figured out yet.
