2010 GT Engine

I was looking at the FRPP website and noticed a 350HP 4.6 3V was for sale. It sounds like the only change was "hot rod" cams. I was wondering if this might be the 2010 GT engine? If this is true, with 3.73 gears, this should stay on an SRT8 bumper and only give up 2-3 car lengths to an SS.

Interesting point! Don't mean to HJ thread but I was just curious why they are not putting the 5.0 in the 2010? With a new refresh I would think the 5.0 would be in it instead of 2011. Just don't want to wait another year to see it!!

and Ford doesn't like winning car of the year awards, which it surely will not win against the 2010 camaro and it can't win 2011 since it won't be completly new car.

Yay, we won car of the year because of our 5.0 engines, that we now have to recall because we didn't test it enough.... but we won car of the year.... GO team!

Oh yeah, like all those bowtie-hugging rags out there were ever going to give a Mustang redesign COTY over a "brand-new" Camaro. Especially with GM on its death bed. Wouldn't happen ever, the "Camro wins" articles were already written months ago.

Well the new Nissan 370Z is rated at 332HP, I'm hoping that the Mustang can at least match that for 2010! It is gonna be sad if Nissan and Chevy produce 300+HP /v6 cars and Ford's base V8 only churns out 300!

The point is they should have been working on the engine in a schedule that they don't even have to make that decision.

Which is better:

1. Improve what you can and offer it to the customers when it's ready;

2. Hold off on offering any major improvements until all major improvements are ready.

If one is in business to make money, option 1 will invariably prevail. And especially so when one is already strapped for cash and needs a steady flow of new sales.

Yes, it would be nice if the cosmetic refresh and the new engines were ready at the same time, but it didn't happen. Rushing a release to meet an arbitrary schedule has burnt Ford (and others) too many times in the past. I'd rather wait and be confident it was done right than to "have it now" and have nothing but problems.

so is consumer reports but there are a ton of normal consumers that swear by it and there are thousands more that do care about car of the year.

If it didn't matter you wouldn't see companies spending millions advertiseing they recieved the awards.

I'm looking at this in a world perspective not out car gear head loving perspective that can deal with the buts and why things are done.

Ford put the old 5.0 the Mustang in 94 and 95 then introduced the 4.6 in 96. They weren't ready in 94 with a new package just like 2010. Its the same old story again. They had the 4.6 in Mercury vehicles before the 94 Mustang came out but were just slow to get it in there. Why I have no Idea they are always slow to integrate this stuff. I cant wait for the 5.0 this time. I am waiting for a special edition Vert for me.

At first, I was just going to wait for the first SE to come out to buy it, but after thinking about it for a couple weeks, I'll more than likely buy the GT. Only way I'll buy the SE is if it's an improvement on the ENTIRE CAR, not just some stickers and a name.

If horsepower is all you look at, they've got you right where they want you. Torque is where it's at, and it makes the Chevy's 300 HP V6 all that more laughable to me. It will fool the 80% of shiny toy buyers that swallow the comparison to the GT that the salesman gives him/her.

Perception is reality, in marketing. It has ever been thus.

Thank God there are at least a few, many on this board, that understand. TQ, not HP, is the key...

Looks like the domestic manufactures got you right where they want you.

A cars gear ratios can make up for lower power. If the nissan can rev higher they could take advantage of a bigger ratio(smaller gear) and equal it.

270lbs of torque with a 2.2 ratio gear with 3.55 rear would be 2108 lbs of torque at wheels.
330lbs of torque with a 1.8 ratio gear with 3.55 rear would be 2108 lbs of torque at wheels.

Then the nissian would either need to rev higher(which it most likly does) to make up for the smaller gear or have a six speed to allow tighter ratios(which it prob has too).

But that being said I perfer the sound of a V8 over a V6 so even if the Z is as fast as the stang I atleast have the V8 soundtrack.

They didn't NEED the 5.0 when the 5.8 was going into it....
that's the whole point

But because plans change, the 5.0 was created and put in the pipeline.
While we all may not like it not coming out till 2011... at least its not 2012 or 13.

They had a plan, things changed, they reacted, and now we have to wait.
Poo poo to you
