2010+ Factory shift light?!?!??!?!

I rented a 2010 V-6 while in florida over the weekend.

I had the mycolor turned to blue and when I hit the redline the ENTIRE TACH WENT BRIGHT RED.

I had no idea this feature was on the car, called some friends back home (design ehngineers for Ford) tehy hadnt heard about it either, but its obviously out there if its on some random rental car.

Must be part of the warning system. Any time one of the gauges (fuel, temp, etc) goes in to warning (last 10 miles before empty, too hot, etc) the whole gauge goes red. Must be the same thing with over-revving. I'll have to give it a (very brief) shot next time I drive.

Wish it was programmable for shifts before you hit the limiter.

I bet you can get into ECU and program it the way you want. Maybe using some kind of XCalibrator.

BTW, I am ordering one tomorrow from China for 45$... it is supposed to work on Ford...

Here is the two options they offer:
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_i...lashing-cable/
http://www.chinavasion.com/product_i...mercedes-ford/

Anyone knows anything about these?

Ever hear of the Rev Limiter?

I know he was driving a '10 when he saw the gauge go red, but I was talking about checking out my '07 (I should have been specific apparently). From the '07 Owners Manual :

Note: A gauge in a warning condition will be lit red when the headlamps
are on.

I've seen the temp gauge and the fuel gauge go red, but I have only hit the rev limiter maybe once in 4 years. I was going to see if the tach changed to red when it hit the limiter. On a warmed engine, there should be no harm in bouncing it off the rev limiter for a second or so. That's what the limiter is for, to keep you from over reving the engine and doing harm.

Don't get your panties in a bunch. I know what a rev limiter is, I was just trying to help you out in case the '05-'09s don't have the feature. So you wouldn't be bouncing it off the limiter wondering why it doesn't warn you

Wish is was programmable like the GT500 cluster .... Be cool if the SCT could set it without lowering the REV LIMITER.
