2009 Mercury Cougar, Come on Mercury! Do it!
Reality check time, lets assume they make a new cougar based on the mustang chassis... Who would buy a mercury cougar instead of a mustang?
Not me. Mercury is about the most uncool brand in my book. Seriously, it's not needed. A new cougar would not benefit the Mustang at all. I want the designers and engineers to stay focused on making sure the Mustang continues to be the best pony car.

luxury sport coupe
I could get all the luxury items I had on my last 3 t-birds
I would keep the stang also
I can give another good example as to why the cougar should stay dead and buried...Firebird...
Firebird got the lion's share of the money allocated to the F-body program even though the camaro sold more. Chevy had to make due with lint when it was said and done, all they got out of the deal with the 4th gen was a crappy nose job and a weak SE (compared to the regular offering). Mustang by comparison on the same time had Bullitt, Mach, and the terminator.
Imagine if Mustang had to share 50% of its project money with cougar? Or imagine if the cougar's success was top priority and and the money was even more lop-sided?
