Thought the 6.2L BOSS would be in the 2009MY F-150 redesign...which will be out in 08....
And just because the 5.8L doesn't show up in the Mustang GT till MY2011...doesn't mean we can't see it in a SE prior.... like 2010....
by my math....thats 2 and a bit years away for the stang... and 1 and a bit for the F150

I was told by a Ford Rep last year, that the Boss Mustang was going to replace the Shelby GT500.
It makes sense, especially if the new engine isn't going to be out for a couple of years.
If we are lucky, maybe we will see a 09/10 Mach1 with a 5.4L, 400hp. Which I would buy in a heart beat.

Heard something on the news tonight about the EPA (or some other ABC group/ govt. org.) trying to require all cars to hit 35 MPG sometime in the near future. If this is so.... what will that do for our hopes of a high HP muscle car?

Wouldn't likely be all that sudden. By the time standards hit that level the manufacturers will be pushing them up to that level just on a competetive basis. As for what that means for muscle cars, learn to love Turbos and Tesla roadsters.

I am guessing that within the next 10 years, we will only see V8's in Trucks. Maybe the Mustang & Corvette will survive and offer a V8, but I doubt we will continue to see Chrysler 300C's running around with 340hp Hemi's.
The one good thing about all of this is how advanced V6's have gotten.
Today's V6's are producing more H.P. then the V8's we were driving just a few years ago.

Or at least smaller, higher tuned V8s rather than the big 5+ liter ship's engines we see now, probably more in the 4-5 liter range with supercharging of some sort for higher hp/torque ratings. I imagine the 35mpg is a corporate AVERAGE rating, not for each and every car. While cars of all sorts have gotten big and fat lately -- to wit, the two-ton GT500 dreadnaught -- ever increasing oil/gas prices along with greater pollution/emission awareness will force a bit more discipline on manufacturers in regard to weight, efficiency and emissions.
I doubt a '70's style performance meltdown but rather, using more of a qualitative (technology) approach to performance than the current quantitative (big motors) approach.
More likely that trucks too, at least lighter duty ones, will be dragged under this standard, or some significant tightening of their own specific standards.

i think they will push more on the company vehicles, work trucks, semis, businness vans, the government knows that there are more miles on these than any other vehicles, and they will probably set a standard in order for that vehicle to be legal for use i can see that in the next 5-10 years, i dont really care, i just want my new mustang lol
