'12 MT82 gear whine in all gears
'12 MT82 gear whine in all gears
I have a '12 GT Prem with 2670 miles on it, and the transmission whines in all gears - it is definitely coming from the input side of the trans, as the noise is consistent with engine RPM, not vehicle speed. The whine increases in volume with load - can't hear it in neutral with clutch out.
Anybody else having this issue? Sounds to me like the input shaft bearing or something like that. It's definitely in the trans.
I'm going to call the dealer tomorrow to set up an appointment - and also to look at the front suspension, which groans over speed bumps.
All in all, I suppose it's not too bad. Those are the only two problems I'm having - and one of them (the trans) was pretty much inevitable.

Racing transmissions whine because they have straight-cut gears, which make much more noise but are much stronger.
The MT82 most certainly does not have straight-cut gears, and thus should not whine. The thing is, shifting effort is still great. Other than slight notchiness into 2nd, which it's always had, it doesn't shift any worse than it did from the factory.

Hope the dealer is able to resolve the issue. Seems like the notchiness into 2nd gear is a result of the skip-shift solenoid still being enabled. After the FRPP tune was installed on my car, the trans felt different.
Hmm... it may be a belt, but it definitely sounds like a gear noise.
I'm not gonna sit here and say the trans is **** or defective because it whines - frankly I'm not even at the point where I'm gonna call the dealer - I'm just trying to figure out if this is happening to other people, and whether it means the trans is about to blow up or not.
Just because everybody else is saying MT82s are **** and they're whining and *****ing about it doesn't mean I'm not allowed to have a problem with mine.

I have a 2012 gt i just got monday and i have noticed the notchiness only into second i wonder if i should disconnect the solenoid for skip shift and see if it feels different.

No whistling sound coming from my MT82, but I do have the groans over speed bumps and driveways. The groans sound like rubber against rubber coming from the front-end. Not sure if it's suspension or something else.
Also, I don't like the notchy feel when shifting into 2nd gear, but it tends to be more present during slower speeds, which suggests the 1-4 skip-shifts is causing that feeling in the gears.
Hawkeye18, please let us how your dealer visit went.

I haven't scheduled a dealer visit yet, and probably won't until next week. Frankly at this point it's not bad enough to warrant dealing with a dealer.
Deysha, I thank you for your offer of assistance, but I don't think I need to escalate this quite yet...
I have the whine also Ford will not do anything right now, I have been denied and told by customer service who told my dealer that its a normal characteristic of the trans even though i told them one day i didn't have it and now i do lol but its shifting so gd smooth with that new fluid in it and everything is documented in my file so when the **** hits the fan i have evidence and a big "I told you so"
