I won a car show! (in my class)
I somehow got 1st place in the "Street Stock '81 to Present" class. I was so shocked I have actually already forgotten who got 3rd, but 2nd was an '07 GT500 'vert, who has won at a couple other shows I've been to, including "Best Interior" this spring.
I was a little unsure about entering the Street Stock class versus the Custom Street class (the only other class that was an option) but since I'm still on stock wheels, stock paint, and there are no really wild mods, I thought Street Stock was closer than Custom Street.
The award ceremony was interesting, they wanted all drivers near their cars so that when they were called they could drive up to the stage, get their picture taken and trophy, then drive away again. I was standing near my car with a couple other guys, and heard the 3rd and second place cars called (and recognized the GT500 right away), and was wondering which car would be 1st above him. Then they called my car, and I was actually in shock. I never expected even a trophy (I was all packed up and ready to roll out as soon as my class was done), let alone 1st place. But hey, I'll take it.
The trophy is nice and big, and I'll have to put a shelf up somewhere to display it, but for now it'll sit in front of the fireplace. Here's the trophy, with a 1/24th scale car in front of it. It's a whopping 33" tall!
I haven't done anything to the car since the latest updates in my mod thread (link in my sig), other than put another coat of Zaino Z2 on it before the show.
This weekend is another show, an all Ford-powered show under the awning on Freemont Street in downtown Las Vegas. I'm a little more concerned about this show just because of all of the foot traffic around the cars from regular tourists, not just show attendees, but we'll be out of there at 5pm, before it gets dark and more crowded because of the "Experience" shows, and hopefully before the drunks are out in force.

Thanks. Yeah, I brought it in for a couple guys at work to see. Now it's home again, waiting for a good display shelf to sit on.
Every trophy they had for this show (and they had quite a few) was huge, I don't think they hand anything smaller than 18" tall, if not taller.

Very cool Jay. That is a rather large trophy. Are you going to keep it in your office? I know how it feels to be in shock at a car show. I was attending one in September. About 170+ cars entered. They have awards for catagories, top 75 and best of. 7/8ths of my BADMC crew got a top 75 award, and Hi Roller got Best Flames, but I didn't get called.
Now keep in mind, this is a judged show, not popular vote. So after the imports were read off, and the best "in progress" car, and tallest vehicle were read, they got to "Best Of Show" awards for stock, mod, import and domestic. I was sitting there just relaxing, having a good time with my club buddies (I go to shows for the cars and to hang out with friends. If I get a trophy, thats cool. Its not why I attend them, but it is nice to be recognized for the work one puts into their car). Well, they got to Best of Show Domestic, the last award. Now, keep in mind, there were ALOT of domestic cars old and new, but they called my name! Boy was I speechless. So I know how you feel. It does feel pretty good when you win a big one, though, doesn't it?

Congratulations, yeah, it feels really good to be recognized for your work.
I'm keeping the trophy at home, still trying to figure out where to put the shelf to put it on. I've been trying to figure out for 2 years now where I'm going to put the shelves for die-cast cars too, this will have to get added in to the same display.
