Tungsten vs Mineral Grey
Might not be able to get a mineral grey '05 and have to
wait for an '06. From the pictures, it's hard to tell if the
new tungsten color is just a rename of the mineral grey
color or is really a new color.
Does anyone know for sure?
Thanks

"I've never known a company to rename a color and offer the exact shade on the same vehicle the very next model year."
Brad, please correct me if I'm wrong - no flames intended as you are the man. But -- I have a Torch Red GT and the touch up paint is listed as Colorado Red and the dealership referred to it as Colorado Red when it was on order. In the MY 06, the Torch Red is not Available, but Colorado Red is. Are they one in the same or do you think they will do a shade change?

I don't have any verifiable information that Colorado Red is on the 2006 list, but I'll have more info in a few weeks.
It is not uncommon for a company to offer the same shade with two different names for two different products in the same model year. Colorado Red may be what Torch Red is called on a different vehicle, but it's Torch Red on Mustang, even in 2006 according to the Ford Fleet web site.

Tungsten looks like a light charcoal, or very dark silver. Infinity has a very nice tungsten type color on the G35.
Mineral grey however, is taupe by any other name, not the same color at all.
Ford has previously changed a color's name from one year to the next, my '92 is "Vibrant Red", but in '94 the same color was called "Performance Red". The paint code is the same for both.

It was a Limited Edition only color in '92, they didn't offer it in '93 on the Mustang. It came back in '94 as a regular color.

Tungsten is nowhere near as dark as DSG...
My buddy has a Mazda '3' in what they call Titanium. I believe it will be the same color for the Mustang as Mazda is owned by Ford (and we all know the Stangs and the Mazda '6' go down the same assembly line).
When I look at his '3' I grin from ear to ear becuase I did not see the show car in Detroit. But I'm pretty sure I've seen Tungsten (Titanium) in natural sunlight. Ladies and Germs... you will not feel bad about missing out on the '05 once you see this color.
I am hoping it is the same shade as the Tungsten Ford GT at this site http://fordimages.com/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=7
(These pix are somewhere on this forum as well, but I couldn't find them easily.)

So what is the difference between Tungsten and Titanium?

The Concept 2005 Mustang GT Coupe was Tungsten.

The Performance Trilogy, made up of the Ford GT, Shelby Cobra Roadster, and pre-production 2005 Mustang GT, were painted Titanium with Quick Silver stripes for the 2004 Detroit Auto Show.

The 2006 Mustang will be offered in Tungsten, which is the same shade as Titanium.
That's how I understand it anyway. I never saw the Concept 2005 Mustang GT Coupe in person. :bang:
Titanium/Tungsten is a dark silver. Mineral Grey (and Shadow Grey) are metallic greys. There's a big difference. Mineral Grey has a fairly strong yellow/brown undertone, while Tungsten almost has a hint of blue. In strong sunlight, Mineral Grey almost looks pale gold.
If I'd had to wait for an '06, I would have chosen Tungsten. The show car looks awesome with the light silver stripes. But I'm glad I got Mineral Grey before they abandoned it.
