I've got my CDC spoiler for my '06 Tungsten GT in the paint shop right now and the painter is telling me "T8" isn't enough information for him to order the paint from his supplier. (He's not a Ford dealer - in fact GM instead.). I was able to look up the additional code of "M7145A" - is that what he needs to give to his supplier to mix a batch from scratch?

Any of you out there who have had paint done other than the dealership, can you let me know the info on how to mix a batch of Tungsten up?

I searched here and could not find, except for sources that actually sell the paint in pints. I may eventually do that instead of leaving it up to the painter to figure it out.

 

I hate to tell you this but you need to deal with another "paint shop". I own a paint & body shop and have painted Project Source Horse which is also "T8" and that IS the code you need...nothing more. I have my own mixing system and I can go over to the PC and punch in T8 and it brings up the formula I need to mix for Tungsten grey. .....and I am not a Ford Dealer...this code is not dealer specific, it is INDUSTRY specific...meaning ANY body shop can mix or order it using that code.

Any credible Body shop can look up or order your paint by that code...if they don't have their own mixing system they can call their paint supplier and order it simply using "T8" and the model year and make.

You too can personally go to an auto parts store that supplies Dupont, Valspar, PPG, Sikkens, etc and give them that code and have the paint mixed up.

The fact that he is telling you this throws up a HUGE red flag in my book....beware.

Yeah, it was a red flag for me, too. I'm relaying this info with the painter through my dad, who is a service technician at the GM dealership (going on 35+ years). I think b/c they are GM they quickly told my dad that wasn't enough info before they even bothered to research it. I just told him everything you just said - that this is supposed to be a no brainer. He'll head over to the body shop on the next test drive and slap 'em upside the head for me.

If they start dorking around with paint chips and trying to eyeball it, I'll say see ya later...

 

Yes, that explains it better....GM paint codes are typically longer numbers while Fords are 2 digit.

 

T8 was all my painter needed too.

 

You know, for that matter they can just look at the door emblem and get all the information they would need for the paint. It's all right there.

And yeah... T8 is all they need.
