Hello all,

It is a Quick & easy deal to upgrade to the IUP Shift **** from the standard ****! All you need is a small to medium bit phillips screw driver and possibly some needle nose pliers.

1. Purchase one #4r3z7213da Automatic Shift ****. It will cost you about $90.00 with tax.
2. Get your keys and tools and head out to the car.
3. Turn on the ignition Do not start and take the car out of park.
4. Set hand brake.
5. Turn Key off.
6. Pull shifter down to first.
7. On the front of the shifter you will find your phillips screw, loosen and remove it.
8. Put car in Drive and lift slowly on the **** You will find the overdrive wiring COILED around the shift shaft Rotate until free.
9. Unplug the overdrive wiring gently pulling strait up. You may want to use the needle nose pliers. I did not need them.
10.Unpack your upgrade **** and scrape off the scotch tape holding the screw in the new ****!
11. Reverse the steps for install.
Hint 1. Do not overcoil the overdrive wiring it needs a little slack
Hint 2. Check the overdrive light in the Dash cycling the O/D switch With key on.
Hint 3. Check for free shifter operation if it feels like its binding loosen screw and wiggle the shift **** then retighten!

It took me about five Minutes to do this and ten Minutes to type the instructions!

OLD vs NEW!

I think this really Brightens up the Console area with it's overload of black. I hope this info is helpful to those who want to do it yourself!

Enjoy

I realize this is a very basic thing but I feel there are some people who will find this helpful. I will also be installing the Upgrade Steering wheel, Door handles and Scuff Plates. If I get a favorable response to this post I will do the same thing with those items.

I really like that you posted everything with pics, but the silence is probably due to few people wanting to do this mod.

Plus you covered it all, so its not like we have questions=)

Well done!

You act like my 7 year old daughter, rolling your eyes. I will make sure not to ask you another Q - don't want to waste your time.

I'm glad you posted this with photo's. We should have a section for mods or parts changes and list by topic. I saw some shots on door panel removal. Brad you might want to consider a sticky and set these up. Like a service repair manual.

Dear Brian,

I thought you might be making fun of me. Recently I have been BEAT UP for my spelling and you had a typo on regular I thought it was a JAB at me but I was not sure. So I answered you question but with a sheepish demeanor. Please ck profile to the left!

I follow the progress on you car quite regularly and believe you are a great asset to the forum! Please forgive the misunderstanding friend?

Now to answer your question, Are you look for a simulated stick style shifter? I have thought of this myself but after looking at the complexity of the **** I believe it would be quite a challenge. The overdrive button comes in the **** and would be hard to remove. Please feel free to clarify your question!

AH, ok.

No I was not making fun of you . I actually want to put a billet ****with a standard shift boot in place f the jet fighter style shifter there now.

If there any thread , we can have that mod for a few bucks. Just the cost of the **** and fabbing a boot.

Dear Brian,

I have another forum going on BILLET PARTS if you would like go check it out and describe in detail what you would like and what would you do with the overdrive button. Would you want it in the dash or what? If you have not been to this forum you will see where I am going with this! Also would you still want to see the Shift indicator or cover it up? Check out the old HURST AUTO STICK if they still make it I think it's the LOOK you want even though it would not work in the stang.

Glad the Misunderstanding is behind us!
Luv your Car, it's inspiration for us all!

This is great information.

I was concerned about the slider scratching the handle over time, this shows how easy it is to replace the handle if it comes time to replace it.

Thanks for the pictures! If only the service manuals were this clear!

Thanks!

Getting all this information out clearly is a bit of work. I just swapped to the IUP interior handles and it's kind of a pain to do. I took twenty pics and I can do a similar post if anybody is interested? If not I may just post the before and afters! Its up to the members. Anybody interested?
