While You Think it Would Be Obvious After The First Scratch Many Persist. For Best Longest Life of Your Faux Badge For Crying Out Loud Use Your Remote or Cup Your Keys in Your Hand When Opening Your Trunk! The 07-09 GT & GT CS Are The Most Vulnerable as Shown By Example. This Badge Would Have Been very Nice Had The Owner Paid Attention To The First Scratch! They Most Always Have This Pattern of Damage From Mid To Top Vs All Over Or Below GT.
To Any Out There With NOS Badges Either Rat holed For Future Use or Selling!
First Off Make Sure Stored Out of Direct Sunlight indoors! Don't Stick in a Hot Toolbox in your Garage For Storage!
There is a Ticking Time Bomb I Have Discovered!
The Clear Plastic Scratch Protector Cover Over The Center Puck Area Can Over Time Actually Damage The Chrome Where The Adhesive Attaches The Clear Scratch Protector. On The Painted Style Like The 07-09 Factory Integrated Puck Style Which is Paint over Chrome It Can Actually Eat The Paint So Bad That When You Pull over The Protector it Will Pull The Paint Off.
Ideally Your Badges Until Install Need To Have The Scratch Protector Removed By Warming Up in Sunlight or Warmer Tap Water and After Removing Protector Taking Some Dish Soap or Gently Using Some Denatured Alcohol with a Terri Cloth and Removing Any Residue. If Paint Comes Off Then it is Simply Too Late. The Worst Thing You Can Do is To Remove Protector To Inspect and Stick Back On. At The Very Least if You Wait Until Install To Remove Clean in Same Manner Before Installing.
I Know This After Working With Numerous Nos Badges over the Last Couple of Years. So Be Advised The NOS Ebay Listings That are Unopened & Still Have Protector on are Suspect. The Bullitt & Gt-500 Styles are Not an Issue as They Do Not Use Scratch Protectors.
I Know Some Obsolete Purchasers and Suppliers Swear By Unopened Packages But it is Unlikely They Are Aware of This Particular Issue. Due To High Cost of These I had Opened Mine Anyway as Usually The Bag was So Cloudly you Could Not Tell True Condition of Badge.
Well Just an FYI,
See Example. Those Bubbles are What Can Be an Issue Where Adhesive Has Partially Let Go. May Be Right as Rain or May Get Paint Pull. After Removing & Cleaning Adhesive on This Style Some Ceramic Paint Coat or Spray Wax Might Be a Good Idea.
I Won't Be Leaving The Protector on Any of My NOS Ones I Sell For This Reason. I Want To Know What I'm Selling and Not Disappoint Buyer!
See Bottom Pic For What Surface Paint Has To Stick To on Later Integrated Puck Style. It's Why They Scratch Fairly Easy Unless Care is Exercised When Cleaning.

NEW PIC OF BADGE I WAS PREPPING FOR LISTING TODAY!
What a Way To Start My Day! Yep My Nos Badge Went Fubar in Nothing Flat! As I Warned on The Integral Style Badges What Could Happen When The Protective Cover Came Off. A Once Mint GT/CS Badge Destroyed Simply While Doing What You Would Before Installing. I Can't Stress Enough If You Are Getting an NOS Gt/CS Badge That is Still Packaged This Could Happen To You!
Same on The Later Painted Style GT Badge 7R3Z Numbers. Currently There are 4 of The GT/CS Style on Ebay For Big Money That are Still Packaged. You Have Been Warned. I Just Lost Hundreds in a Few Seconds! I Will Repurpose Badge & Cut My Losses as it Still is Nos With Flawless Chrome. It Will Either Be a New Shelby GT Style I Have Been Toying With or One of My Smaller Gt/Cs Insert Styles Which Will Be More Durable Than This Style. I Have Another GT Badge Which Did The Same Thing! DOH!
I Won't Sell Somebody a Time Bomb!
If You Have To Have Original I Advise Trying To Find One That Already Has Had Protective Film Removed as it is Clearly Toxic 15+ Years Down The Road! Or Finding a Very Nice Used! It's The Sticker Adhesive Which Weakens The Paint. On All My Painted Ones I Test The Paint With Denatured Alcohol & Dish Soap & If It Comes Out Nice & Clean With No Paint Removal or Transfer It gets a Ceramic Coat and is Good To Go! Then Just Keep Your Scratchy Keys The Hell Away From The Keyhole!
Real Happy With The Blue Ring Pony Badge With Nos Insert I Finished Today. Here it is After The Last of The Process a Ceramic Coat. I Have This Coating Which Comes out of Australia and Is Hard To get and Spendy But Really Works Well! The Better The Chrome The Better The End Result!
Every So Often You Get a Badge That Just Turns Out Spectacular & Pics Don't Always Tell The Tale! This Badge While Not Perfect Is What I Would Dare To Say is Show Worthy!
Ditto on "Welcome Back" KC.
I still own and drive my 05 GT. She was my daily driver until the start of 2013. She and I are semi retired now with 114+K miles on her.
Years ago I bought a new GT Faux Cap from "New Take Off Parts" thinking it might be needed some day and it might be an issue trying to find a NOS. After reading your post, I am very glad I did buy that new cap. The original cap on her is still in excellent condition as is the rest of the car. Reassuring to now know it was a good decision to buy the cap in case I ever need to replace the original.
Thanks again for all you have done to help me with parts years ago.
Take Care, and Stay Safe.

Using a Style Similar To What Shelby Offered in 2008 as a Shelby Gt Upgrade Badge. They Were Domed Metal. I Have Found Some Original 1990's Shelby Wheels Silicone Wheel Emblems Which are A Great Fit on a Later Gt Non Puck Style Original Badge. Logo Is Same although Smaller But Genuine Shelby.
{Note} Vintage Ad Stating One of The Badges Only Sold To Shelby GT Owners as an FYI!
They are Also a Whole Lot More Durable Than What is Being Offered These Days. I Have Tried The Newer Pony Ones Out There and Just Wiping Some Will Scratch With a Teri Cloth! Just Junk! The Cs Ones I Have Can Be Wiped With a Cloth & Denatured Alcohol & Does Not Even Phase it!
On a Side Note The GENUINE Original Metal Stickers That Shelby Once Offered For $19.95-24.95 Are Listed at Almost $300.00 on Ebay When Available These Days! Aye Carumba!
