Man, I remember the very reasonable prices on the NOS GT/CS ones on ebay when I bought my 2007. I always thought about getting an extra and I wish I did. It's better than owning a blue chip stock.
Well Your Oil Can Selling For Almost $500.00 was Pretty Impressive!
So After a Decade Plus Being Gone on a Regular Basis I Came Back To TMS A Year and a Half Back. Why, Because of Getting Numerous Emails Looking For The Running Pony Faux Gas Cap. I Had only Intended to Do This Thread and Leave Again. Ended Up Sticking Around and Became an Administrator Go Figure!
Anyhoo I Listed the Best Used Pony Emblem I Have and The Auction Ends Today! It will Be Interesting To See How it Does or Does Not Do! I Don't Expect any Bids till The Last Minute. Seems to be The Norm These Days Depending on Item. Got Watchers!
Also I Have Some Incoming Test Parts Which May or May Not Make a Close Badge Repair Mod Looking Very Oem. We Shall See! Stumbled Over the Solution. Also a Custom Pony Option Different Than My Silicone Sticker Custom Running Pony Listing. Will Update After Receiving Supplies & Getting it Assembled.
My Reman Pony Badge Utilizes Factory Vintage Emblem in Similar Style to Original V6 Pony Badge!
While The Pony is Smaller The Chrome Ring Puts it Back in Proper Perspective!
I Now Also Have The Correct 3m Adhesive To Reinstall the Adhesive on My Reman Badges.
I'm Liking This!
The Trim Ring I Found Came in Red So I Went With it! It Can Be Stripped to Bare Aluminum or Painted But I'm Kinda Liking The Red!
Note Comparison to Average Pony Badge These Days! Except For the High Dollar NOS Ones This is Actually One of The Better Ones You Find on Ebay these Days! Not really Worth Fooling With Most of The Used Ones Anymore! Lots o Junk!
This is The Prototype and I Hope to Have One Finalized and Up For Sale on Ebay Soon!
Have Other Styles I'm Working With as Well! Will Update When I Have Another To Share!
Also I Still Have Two Nice Oem Pony Badges To List.
I Finally Got The Badge Adhesive Down Pat. What a Pain To Try & Duplicate The Factory Adhesive. First It's very Difficult To Find Large Enough Sheets For The Emblems in the Proper Color & Thickness. My First Stuff Was Good 3m Product But The Clear Was Hard To Cut & Was Too Stretchy in My Opinion. What I Found is Just Like The Oem Stuff With The Blue Backing But Has The Red 3m Logo in Vinyl on One Side and Paper on the Other. Also Viewed From the Side They are Gray and The Actual Adhesive is a Rich Metallic Black.
The Factory Install Shows Just a Hint of The Outside Rim as Shown in The Example. The Fit Around The Lock Cylinder Seems To Be Hit & Miss on The Selection of NOS Badges I have. I Think I Really Nailed a Great Fit on The Lock Cylinder Area. It Took Some Trying and Playing Around With Order of Cutting Etc. To get Desired Fit I Am Comfortable Enough With To Offer On My Take Off & Used Badges.
Still Playing With Pony Options For All Those Tore Up Originals You See on Ebay That are Pretty Well Done For!
Anyhoo Here are The Final Results on The Adhesive. I Added a Tear Strip as Well Using Extra Backing To Make Install Easier!
I Finalized My First Vintage Style Custom Badge and Put Her Up For Auction! I Think it Turned Out Well! I Used The 3m Adhesive To Attach Modified Emblem & Trim Ring & **** It Felt Like It Grabbed the Emblem Right out of My Hands! That Stuff is Mean Sticky! It's Not Going Anywhere! Also it Has The Adhesive on the Back So it's Ready To Find a New Home! Both The New Badge & Trim Ring Are For External Use So They Should Fair The Weather Well!
I Took a Pic Out in The Sun To Show It Down & Dirty! I Think It Turned Out Well!
Presenting TYPE 3 Kc Custom Faux Gas Cap Aftermarket Pony on Black Base. At Least Two More Styles on the Board! Stay Tuned!
I'm Real Happy With This Style! Clean & Mean!
As Promised Now All Used Badges Come With Proper 3M Adhesive! I'm Getting a Lot of Practice in the Arts & Crafts of Mustang Badges! Original Insert Removed! What a Pain That is Without Damaging Chrome!
I Think it Looks Great in the Sun!
It is Listed on Ebay!

Sharp Eyes Will Notice Different Size Insert & Ring Than Blue One Above. Also Floating Badge Vs Black Base! Lot of Dremel Work To Get These To Fit!
John, Thanks For The Kind Words in Your PM on My Emblem Efforts & The Likes. It Is Appreciated! You Know From Your Own Personal Experience It is Not as Easy a Task as I Bet a Lot of Folks Think. Especially Dealing With The Odd Size of the Emblem Insert & Short Recess on the Chrome Base. I Got a Lot of Base's & Inserts Which Should Have Worked But of Course The Listed Measurements of Parts Don't Match Actual Size! And You Can't Buy a Lot of The Items Except in Multiple Quantities. Joy Joy Joy!
Actual 1965 Real Gas Cap Vs My Faux {repair} Tribute. Another New Version in the Works!
The One on the Left Uses an Actual 65 Gas Gap Vintage Repop Insert. So Insert is Exact Size of 65 Cap Insert. It's Long Discontinued. I Have Remaining Limited Stock! The Odd Thing is the Red Chrome Blue Vs Red White Blue as in My Other Insert.
I Guess The Silver Would Be Closest So far to Original Look! But That is the Other Larger Insert With Red White & Blue.
I Think I Have Got as Close to the 1965 Theme as Possible For Me! Check Out These Custom Aluminum Inserts I Just Got to Mock Up Stage.
These are Both Using The Actual 65 Gas Cap Insert Vintage Obsolete Repop. Once Used Up I Can Not get Anymore. They Actually Varied a Bit and if you Look at The Size of the Chrome Band the Low Profile has a Thinner Band Vs Wider Band on Semi Low Version. Go Figure!
The Inserts Could Be Polished Like Aluminum Wheels. Could Be Done Down The Road as Well As Before Assembly. If I Polished Them Now It Would Need Some Attention to Be Maintained.
I Could Not get the Brushed Finish To Show up on This Overcast Day On The Pics!
See Remarks Under Each Pic!
Just a Thought These Would Be Just as Home on a GT as The Base Pony!
John, I Don't Know For Sure if It Was Your Link You Posted But All of the Sudden My Custom Badges Got Cleaned Out! I will Be Building More Asap! One I Built To Replace One I Had Sold & it Sold in a Couple of Hours! Are There a Lot of Ladies on Your Other Haunt Cause Two Bought Emblems!

Most of the Time The Biggest Issue is the Damage Done During Badge Removal! Gotta Be Gentle! NO SCREWDRIVERS! Get out The Fishing Line!
Awesome stuff. Glad to hear and to help! I'll keep posting the link to other groups to help you out. Yes fishing line only haha. And that's a good idea to buy thier old ones.

And By Doing The Core Buy After The Sale Keeps Ebay's Fingers Out as They are Already Grabby Enough! And The Buyer Gets a Better Deal Too! Cuts Their Costs on Buying Mine! It's a Win Win For Somebody With a Decent Core Removed Properly!
It's Just Never Ending Fun in the Faux Gas Cap World! I Had To Add This to Some of My Custom Badges!
NOTICE 03/17/2024 The Insert Pucks I Use To Make These Have Doubled in Cost Since I Started Making This Style. This Means I Will Have To Increase Sales Price Going Forward. Hopefully These Do Not Get Discontinued as So Many Parts Have During The Last Few Years Due To Supplier Chain Issues. Be Advised!
Now My Smaller Puck Style was Never Going to Be Sustainable Due To The Fact I Was Using a Small Supply of Discontinued Gas Cap Inserts and it Turns Out after Inspecting Stock that Some Had Issues I had Not Foreseen and I Really Don't Want To Use For Quality Control Sake. So The Plot Thickens! See Post 74.
