Yep Finding a One Piece Big Enough Was a Pain. The Factory Backing Was Black and about .065 This is Clear and .045 I think it Will Do the Deed! I just Ordered Some Myself it's Due Tuesday! So Have Not Got it In My Hands Yet. I think One Piece is Critical to Longevity. Two Pieces Would Be Ok if You Don't Mind a Strip of Silicone on the One Seam. I'm Trying to Make Mine Just Like Installing OEM New since I will be Selling a Few!

Be Real Careful on Outer Edge When Cleaning off Old Tape. The Chrome is Thin! Denatured Alcohol on a Cotton Ball & Fingernail is My Tool of Choice!
That's perfect. Thank you KC. I didn't know that 3M makes double sided tape this big. I think I'll go with the clear one since it's larger unless I find the black one at that size. I'll check Amazon & Aliexpress too since most places don't ship to Canada and if they do they want a stupid amount of money for shipping. When I put back the emblem on my 07, I used the stuff from the store. The thinner strips and layed them side by side. Seemed to work. But this one big piece will be even better. Yes the chrome is thin at the edges. Totally agree since I've had experience with it before and noticed that too. The way I take off the old tape is with a hobby knife. Never had a problem. Slow and steady

If your Careful You Should be Able to Get two of the Emblem Adhesives out of the One Page. The Problem With the Thin Chrome is When you Get a Used One and the Remover Gets Heavy Handed. They Also Can Get Cracked! I got Some Real Duds in the Ones I got on Ebay.
I will Sell the Best of the Bunch When I get Them Finalized. Still Waiting on Some More Experimental Pieces. The Tape Comes With Instructions which I Posted Below. Look At the Rear Photos of the New Ones to See How the Tape Does Not Quite Go all the Way Out to the Edge of The Outer Base! That will Be a Fun Cut! Keyhole Similar.

I just found this thread, and after reading through this, I am happy that my cap is in good shape!
I have one of the Silverhorse billet caps in a box of parts and goodies from 2014, and actually had it installed on my '05 for a little while.
It was very prominent, and I liked the billet look, but I missed the GT emblem.
Liking the '60's style GT lettering, I went searching for something to put on my OEM cap.
I then found a small "Mom and Pop" sign shop online that made domed overlay emblems. In 2015, I bought one of their 3 color domed overlays and put it on the cap-
The size was about 4", if I remember, and covered the center circle with a slight overlap.

For my current '06 GT, I ordered a 2.875" round emblem for my oem cap, and it fits just right, applied directly over the original emblem! I think the smaller overlay seems to look more "factory-original" than the larger previous overlay. Here is a picture of my old car (sold it to my neighbor, so I still could see it and regret selling it!) next to my current never-to-be-sold Mustang- The larger overlay, from 2015; it's still in great shape! The new, smaller overlay; you may notice that the same tail light bezels have been swapped onto my current car, that's a story for another thread!
The sizes of these, I feel, can go either way, I just happen to like the new 2.875" overlay on mine.
I love seeing the work and restoration/modding that is still going on with these S197's and I think the time is coming for some entrepreneur to fire up a 3-D printer and start experimenting with some replacement options!

The Gt Cap was originally 5R3Z-6342528-BA Ford Later Changed it To 7R3Z-6342528-BA of Note Sometimes a Dealer would not update the Number Change at the Dealership so Search for Both Part Numbers on Ebay as Well as your Ford Dealer Search!
Well It's a Never Ending Learning Experience. Seem Not Only Did Ford Change the Part Number on These But Changed the Design. The Early Style is A Puck Just Like We See on the Pony Emblems The Later Style as Originally Pictured Has A Chrome Retaining Ring. Also The Early Has a Different Design of The Rear Moulding Process and is Quite a Bit Different. a Picture is Worth a Thousand Words So Here We Go. Also The ID#s Are 4r33-6342508-ad on the Early and 7r3j-6342508ab in the late. It Looks Like 05-06 are Early Style and 07-09 is Late Style. Good To Know Especially if you are Planning on Using a Sticker To Cover & Change Logo. More To Come Next Post.

So Here is an IMPORTANT Take Away From This! if you are Planning To Use a Sticker over Your Existing Emblem on A GT Emblem The Early Works in My Opinion with a 74MM Sticker While the Late Works Better in My Opinion With a 73 MM Sticker. And You Want a Domed Sticker!

It is Becoming Very Hard To get a Decent Base Pony Emblem. Either Big Buck Nos Ones Which are Drying Up Really Fast or Used Ones Which Are Not Worth Fooling With Because Both The INSERT and The Chrome are Toast So What Does That Leave You If You Want as Close To Factory as You Can Get! Find a Nice GT Emblem with Good Chrome & Find The Best Sticker You Can Out There and While Not A Perfect Solution it is Cheaper Than NOS! If Using the Old Puck Style Badge a 74 MM is My Choice and With The Later Style a 73MM I Believe Fits Best. The One Pictured I Had Made Custom Some Time Back and it's Not Bad But there Are Others Out There You May Like Better.
Only Diehard Mustang People Will Notice The Difference. So Figure Your Budget and Pony Up if This is Your Direction!
Btw, The Gt Emblem I Used is a NOS OEM TAKE OFF! What Does That Mean? Back in The Day it Was Removed From A New Car Before Sale and Replaced with Something Else. Man, I remember the very reasonable prices on the NOS GT/CS ones on ebay when I bought my 2007. I always thought about getting an extra and I wish I did. It's better than owning a blue chip stock.
