My Best Advice to Those Seeking a Used Faux Cap is To Locate one Yourself at a Pick a Part. That way you Know What you Are Getting and You Can Choose the One you Want and Delicately Remove the Emblem Vs a Wrecking Yard Employee who is Going a Hundred Miles an Hour trying to Keep up with their Workload! They might Ruin a Nice Cap in their Haste to Remove it.

The Ebay Route on Used Ones is a Crap Shoot as the Pictures are Never Good on a Shiny Chrome Part Like the Pony, Gt and California Special. Also they Never Seem to Clean Them well Enough either. I have had Times especially from Online Ebay Wrecking Yard Auctions where they Use the Same Pics Over & Over so you are not even getting the Same Item you may have inspected. They are Not Supposed to do that. Sellers seem to be getting more Eccentric as well to put it Kindly. Last one I had to Contact was one Rare Bird!

THE END!

Good Luck!

KC

KC or anyone else who might know.
How does one get the GT logo insert out?
I've tried heating it up and trying to get a plastic tool to pry it out without any success. Pushing from the back through the little hole with a tool only ruins the insert. I want to replace the insert with something else without damaging the chrome. Any tips?

Omg, I don't Know what kind of Glue they Used But it is Brutal. It's Just Two Daubs of Glue See Pic. Tape is Approx. Size & Location. I tried Heat {California Heat Wave} Sitting Out All Day on my Trash Can, Cold, {freezer} Soaking in Denatured Alcohol and That One Ended up Shattering after I got it Out. In the End Very Fine Fishing Line Stuck through the Little Hole From the Front with a Loop in it with a Paperclip {Screwdriver in Picture} to Hold in Place. Then Getting Line Worked Behind Badge to Saw Off! Takes Time! Once Behind Badge Remove Screwdriver or Paperclip.

It Will Destroy the Finish of the Insert. At Least it Does on the Pony Insert! I did Manage to Not Mess up Chrome. It is Very Thin Btw. The Chrome that is! I was going to post on this After I had Finished My Research. I'm Waiting on some New Inserts I am Having Custom Made. They are 4 to 8 weeks Out!

The Thin Sticker Route is in My Opinion a Temporary Solution at Best. I tried Two and they Could not Even Package Well enough to Get me an Unwrinkled Item. The One's I got Looked only Fair and Likely would Not Last maybe a Year or Two. Depending on Exposure. But if you were going to keep hunting for a Better solution it is a stop Gap. More on that Later.

Oh and When Removing Old Sticker From Mounting Side {OUTER RIM}. The Chrome is Just So Thin you Really Just Need to Soften Up with Denatured Alcohol and Use Finger Nail. If you Nick Chrome it will Want to Peel!

If you Don't Care about the Badge Anymore I would Cut it Like a Pizza with a Dremel Tool. Badge is Domed and Approx. 4 1/2 mm Thick.

If I'm Not Clear Feel Free to Ask Questions. Btw, What are You Putting in Yours?

All in the Name of I can Fix this and Help Out My Fellow Mustangers I have Destroyed a Couple of Badges. One Had Bad Chrome to Start it was Junk! Being Helpful is getting Spendy! Hopefully I can Recoup My Losses with a Couple of Successes!

On a Side Note That Hole & The Fact they Did Not Glue Completely Down Vs two Daubs is What Lets Water get Behind Badge & Ruin the Finish from Behind on the Pony Badges.

Thank you KC. Not to question your infinite amount of wisdom but are you sure all it takes is some fishing wire to cut it off? I only ask becasue while researching this I found that the GT one is a bit different where the GT logo is part of the back plate.

or am I mistaken on this?

What I want to do is customize it to look something like this:

Where the pony is 3d like on a black background. I want to add a silver ring but not sure if I am able to.
Or maybe customize this.

Thanks for the Complement! I like the Look you are Going For!

I'm Working with 2005-2009 Style . That Appears to Be Later Model. No Keyhole!

The First Two Pics are More Like 2012-2014 and Your Insert is 2017-2019.

I'm Pretty Confident the 05-09 Pony and Gt are Mounted the Same. If yours Looks Like the One Pictured from Behind as in Post 7 Then it is Just Like the Pony!

I believe the Later badge Inserts 2012-2014 are Larger Diameter.

However I Don't Have any to Measure at My Disposal!

As An Fyi the 05-09 Badge Inserts are Approx. 74mm On the Outside.

I would be Curious at the O.D. of that Late Insert. It Might Work! Or it May Need a Bit of Work!

See Examples!

EMBLEM2017-2019 Ford Mustang JR3Z6342528B

I think Silverhorse Could Mix & Match the Outer Ring & Center Piece on Post 20 & 21 And Then All you Need is a Chrome Pony! Silver Outer Ring & Black Center & Pony! Similar to Post 18 Less Tribar! Or Even Chrome & Black! Just a Thought! I know you Like to Do your Own Creative One Off!

Hey KC & everyone else. Want to share what I have been working on. As KC knows I have been looking for a rear emblem with just the pony for a while now. Impossible to find for the 05-09 cars. So what I end up doing is making my own. I made 2 versions. Used my GT emblem & a pony Keychain and one from the 2010 that had the tribar pony emblem.
Turned them into this. LOTS of sanding! Haha. Which one do you like?

Version A

Version B

Thinking of selling the one I don't use in case someone wants it.

Proportions Just Seem Right on Cap A. Closer to Pony Emblem Post 1 to Which Most Are Used Seeing to As well!

Question, Is New Badge on top of Old Badge or Did you Get The Old Ones Out. I Have Found Variance's in GT and Pony Backings Since I Posted on your Removal Questions. Some Do Not Have the Hole in Upper Left and Locating Pins a Little Different as an FYI.

Would Like to See Pics Laying Down to See Crown as Well!

Thanks for the feedback.I guess I am the odd one out cause I like Version B a little more.
To answer your question the new badge is a modification of the original. I popped it out and sanded the GT out. Then made a base out of plastic cause the thickness was not there anymore. Plainted both black and put them together to get the thickness back.
It was a PITA getting the badge out and was glued in two places.

Can you please explain what you mean by "Would Like to See Pics Laying Down to See Crown as Well!"??

Forgot to mention these are 3d. I know its hard to see in the pics. But they are not flat like the originals.

Just Wanted to See 3D Of Emblem Badge. Shelby is More Like Yours With Raised Features. I have Examples of All Badges Now Except GT/CS. I Found Out that Hole on the Base in Upper Left are For a Locating Pin on the GT-500 Badges.

Still Fiddling With My Resto Journey! Got Nos For FRPP Snake, Gt-500 and Bullitt. Half a Dozen or So Used Pony Badges.

I changed my mind.Now I like version B better.

At first I didn't like the way the tip of the tail seemed cut off on version B,but after looking at them a bunch more times,I think overall the bigger pony looks better.I especially like how the mane looks better on the bigger horse
