Hi Kevin,
I would like to know the part number for the factory 3.55 gears which is used for the manual transmission GT Mustangs.
Also, is it a FRPP part or not.. if not, what brand is it??

FRPP gears are identical to the Ford gears only they are cheaper to buy through FRPP than through the local Ford dealer as a service part and they come with shims, crush sleeve and pinion nut. Often you can find the same part through FRPP or as an accessory for less than if you bought it as a service part and this applies to Mopar and GM as well.

Very true in many cases. But on occasion some of the Genuine Ford Service parts are Less Expensive. Also Some Items sold by Ford Racing do not have as good as warranty as the genuine Parts if that is a Factor you want to consider. It pays to Shop. My policy has always been If price is out of line I will refer you to the most cost effective purchase.

That is a good point....officially ALL of Ford Racing parts have no warranty and if there is an issue you will have to fight it out(I had this happen with a defective clutch cable).

Just for Grins I checked the Price and the OE Gears are $757.00 Msrp. Ouch! Another Point is the Gears part Number is Mustang Specific even though other Fords Use the 8.8 Diff. and would Interchange. A set of Gears for an 8.8 Ranger PU with 3.55's are only $216.00 MSRP. Sometimes Ford's Pricing Seems to be pulled out of a Hat!

However, I am really afraid to have it installed. We have only one Ford dealer over here and they are not so efficient some times... I am not sure if they will keep the car's warranty.. they just wait for you to modify any thing in the car so they can void the warranty
Also, from the feedback I got on the forum, it is not worthy to go from 3.31 to 3.55.. every one suggested to higher gears like: 3.73 or 4.10.. and I am not interested in higher gears right now..
I wish it came from factory

Yeah.. we have speed limits here, fastest roads have speed limits of 120 km/h (75 mph)..
Till now, we do not have a drag strip in here
however, it will be opened soon

4.10s are the way to go IMO
Do you Have Maximum Speed Limits Over there??? If Not I would Stick with the 3.31s. As Far as a bang for the Buck in my opinion you will get very Little Change Going From 3.31 to 3.55. Now if you are Strictly Concerned about Quarter Mile Performance. Then I believe the 4.10's will provide a more Noticable Gain in That Area.

A word of advice. When changing gears I don't recommend going from 3:31 to 3:55. I think you should always go 2 more gears if you want to feel the difference and for more performance.
I just went from 3:55 to 3:73 and feel like I totally wasted my money. I'm now going back and having 4:10's put in. BTW in my opinion 4:10's are the gear for the S197 non-aspirated.

3.31 to 3.55 is about 7% increase in RPM and Torque. 3.55 to 3.73 is 5% more. When I changed mine, I went to 3.73 as those were recommended my my installer as being right for stock wheels in a non racing environment. If I were able to get the car with 3.55s from the start, I wouldn't have changed them.
The 3.31s were a bit doggy away from the stop lights. But they were ok up above 70.
The 3.73s are great from the stop lights and awesome for 3rd gear passes. I just can't see the over all practicality of going more.
Going from 3.31s to 4.10 is about a 22% increase in RPM and torque. Double the change of 3.73s. I can see how that would be fun in town and for short sprints down a strip. But I can also see how it would make my V8 rev on the highway like my 2.5L V6 had to. The 4.6L makes plenty of torque to run the highway with out all the extra revving.

You don't need to downshift out of 5th to pass a car with 4:10's.

wanted to revive this thread and ask those with 4.10's what RPMs they're running at highway speeds (75-80mph) and if there was a significant drop in fuel mileage. I expect it to drop, but by how much? Not that I bought this car as a fuel miser.....

Certainly it would also depend on how much in town vs highway driving and how fast you like to drive on the highway. So one members milage could differ greatly even with the same gears.
