Used F-150 questions
I've found a buyer for my 2007 Subaru Legacy, so I'm shopping for used full-size trucks. They're all supercrew (full size doors) 4x4's, and all around the same price ($23k to $25k). They all have a variety of different options but are more or less similar, all have either the short 5'-something box or the 6'6" box, with one exception which is a platinum trim, and all have a clean accident history and are local vehicles:
Certified Pre-owned cars at a Ford Dealer:
1. 2011 F150 XLT w/XTR pkg 5.0L, 74,000kms ($25k)
2. 2011 F150 XLT 3.5 Ecoboost, 99,000kms ($25k)
3. 2010 F150 XLT 5.4L, 66,000kms ($24k)
Private sale vehicles (again in order of price, most to least):
4. 2009 F150 Platinum full load (nav/roof/power rear window/etc), 5.4L, 85,000kms ($23.5k, mismatched tires)
5. 2009 F150 XLT 5.4L, 46,000kms ($23k)
I probably won't tow, but might at some point pull a small 2-horse trailer, I won't tow a 5th wheel, all the above trucks have a tow package. My personal order of preference is 1, 5, then 3. Although I believe in turbocharging, 2 is a first model year and the highest mileage. Although 4 is extremely well equipped and the mileage is good for it's age (keep in mind in Kilometers, not miles) the tires are mismatched and that to me says, "I went for the baller truck that I couldn't afford to maintain."
Now, I know very little about trucks. I'm also looking at a handful of Chevy's and GMC's. I've ruled out Ram's. Knowing there's more than just engine/mileage/model year (such as specific options, accessories), I'd just like to know some pluses/minuses of the various years/engines of these Fords from Ford owners so I can narrow down my list. With the information given, which would you choose and why?

Knowing what I know and having been owned 3 Ford trucks in the past 8 years and my father and nephew owning Ecoboost F150s is go for option 1 also. T
he 5.4L to me is an old engine that gets terrible gas mileage and is underpowered. It does the job but the 5.0L and Ecoboost do better jobs. I had a 2006 F150 Screw 4x4 and got 10.5 mpg average that included mostly city driving. And at 300hp that sucks.
My dad's Ecoboost has been trouble free. My nephews has not. Something to do with rain and the intake. For me buying used I'd personally buy the 5.0. I just wouldn't want to buy a used turbo setup but that's just me. I do have an Ecoboost Explorer sport and love it but I just bought that new.

I would go with 1 or 2. I have had 5 f150's. The leap from the 5.4 to an eco boost was like night and day. phenominal engine and a tow horse. I hauled the race car trailer fully loaded through the rockies no problem. There's few things i can not pass on the highways in my ecoboost.
my old 5.4 would terrify me because i'd have to abort passing things on the highway due to insufficient power.

Be sure to join the Ford F150 Forum to learn more about the F150 you choose to buy. I think the Forum is owned by the same ones that owns this Forum.
I've also read 'some' people are having trouble with the EB when it rains
