The Next Generation Focus Arrives In Europe...
...and it looks HOT!
Fingers and toes crossed that this is the one also destined for North America in a few short years. It will definitely send Civics and Corollas packing >>

Personally, I wouldn't change a thing. That will just ruin the lines and "dumb it down."
Course, that's probably EXACTLY what Ford will do, knowing them. They come up with a great design, ruin it...then wonder why they're going out of business.

It is 100% true that Ford IS getting the same Focus that europe will have when the new Mk III Focus debuts. They developed the new chassis for all markets with the US in serious mind. The 2008 Focus is just a stop-gap for a few years till the new car (don't know if this is it or not, but I LIKE IT!!) is ready. We will finally get the same car as overseas once Mk III comes out!!! Can't wait.

The article did suggest, however, that while the underpinings of Ford's cars will be global, the external styling and interior bits will likely differ in North America from their counterparts Europe. It therefore worries me that even once we get the generation III Focus, our version may - once again - be "dumbed down" and cheapened by Ford of North America's beancounters. It's like a cancer that never quite goes away.
I just read an article in Motor Trend (the "We Drive the Interceptor" article - even though they don't actually talk about driving it anywhere in the article), and it stated that there are some big, "secret" development and turnaround projects underway at Ford right now - and part of that is having five basic global platforms.
