Top's pics don't have an article until 2morrow (offcially), but here's LeftLane's take on the name game: http://www.leftlanenews.com/2007/02/...ate-to-return/

500, Montego, and Freestyle are all gone. Mullaly's mindful of the Taurus/Sable's fall from grace at the end, but at one time they were hot names and had some history behind them. 500/Montego/Freestyle never got off to a hot start, and have no real history to them. So better to bury the names with the bland styling and set things back on the positive track.

Side note: I would have bet good money that the Ranger name was gonna die when/if Ford ever got around to addressing the segment. But this move would seem to indicate that Mullaly would be disposed to keeping the name, which is good news in my book.

The new nose helps the styling of the crossover-formerly-known-as-the-Freestyle quite a bit. Getting rid of the CVT is a plus as well. The six-speed and D35 make it far more competitive.

It never fails to amaze me how much better I like a car when they add the tri-bar grill to older models. These will do better while Ford redies the true facelifts.
