New Ford Ranger (Sorry N. America)

Maybe it's just me, but I'd rather have this than a F150. I don't need a huge truck, but this would work! Maybe throw an Ecoboost 6 in it and call it a F100? Sadly, it's not coming to North America
Ford has finally unveiled the not-for-U.S. 2011 Ranger. The company has just pulled the sheets back on its compact pickup at the Australian International Motor Show in Sydney, and there's no mistaking the newest Blue Oval for anything but a Ford.

That thing looks hot! I still say it's a big mistake not selling this in the US. Tacomas will run the streets even more now.

I love Ford. But they always treated the ranger like a bastard step child

Are those headlights from Tundra?

Anyway, I agree that Ford is making a huge mistake by killing Ranger. Instead of importing C-Max to the USA (from Spain, where is being built) they should start importing this Ranger (I believe it's being produced in Thailand), who would be a much higher seller.

yeah that is probably the best looking Ranger ever, it's a shame we don't get it anymore.

The first thing that popped into my mind when I saw the pic in the first post was a Honda Ridgeline.

I'm not even a truck guy and I'm pissed about this. Ranger fans need to write letters to Ford like mustang fans did when it was going to be the probe.

The article I read about the truck was that it was too close in size to the F150 and that Ford sold 70-75, 000 of them a year but the majority of those who bought them were not interested in it because it was a truck but because it was the cheapest vehicle Ford makes. With the intro of the Fiesta, Ford made a decision it would no longer be profitable and even hurt the F150 sales.

Big disappointment to me. I've had F150's for years but now really only need a four door with a small cargo area. When the Sport Trac ended, I fiqured I would hold out for a new Ranger assuming it would offer a four door model.

I don't think so. There's still a pretty good gap between the cab and the bed. That's indicative of a traditional frame build.

And I would bet you are not alone. It works for the tacoma and tundra, why wouldn't it work for Ford?

That's a lame excuse for them to say its too close in size to F150.

Not with the price hit from the Chicken Tax it wouldn't.

Ford says internal research shows there's two kinds of current Ranger buyers, those who want a cheap and reliable pickup and those who just want the cheapest vehicle they can get from Ford. They think they can talk the former into the base F-150 and the rest will be going to Fiesta.

I didn't click the link, just saw the pic in the thread where it's simply a line from that angle. All is well then

Thumbs down Too Big

It defeats the purpose of a small truck.
I think I might just keep mine
(or buy a newer one while I still can).

Yes, looks Tacoma-ish in size and style. IMO Ford should stay in the compact pick up truck segment - just because the other manufacturers abandoned it in the USA, doesn't mean there isn't a need for it.
So the buyer who wants to get into a Ford as cheaply as possible is forced to choose between a base F150 or a Fiesta? Then how about a Fiesta Ranchero?

Supposedly, a Sport-Trac replacement might be in the making. No timeline, though.

My 2.3L Ranger is all the truck I need the vast majority of times I need a truck. The F150s are quite a bit larger and for me a F-150 is over kill. The Ranger is my errand runner. Perfect in that roll. With the cab high topper, Its like a car with a really big trunk. And I really like that the cargo has the Bed and the cab between me and it. Unlike an SUV.

In 2004 I had both an F150 and a Ranger (and a couple of other cars).
Both were in good shape and had low miles.
I kept the Ranger and traded the F150 for another car.
It is all the truck I need too.

Ford could ship parts from wherever they're building Ranger and then assemble it in one of their USA factories.
