More here.
That needs to be on North American sales floors ASAP, particularly since it is getting the new North American-designed EcoBoost technology.

Ford's fully redesigned Fiesta won't be making its official unveiling until the Geneva Motor Show in March, but it's already working on the hotted-up ST variant and AutoExpress has some exclusive information and a rendering of Ford's performance-bred super-mini.
Aside from the highly-stylized exterior that will carry over from the production model, the ST will come equipped with a new front fascia sporting larger air intakes, a spoiler perched over the rear window and a set of upgraded wheels. Power is expected to come from one of the new range of turbocharged, direct-injected EcoBoost engines set to be revealed in Detroit, although the Fiesta ST will have to make do with a 1.6-liter four producing between 180 and 190 hp. A seven-second 0-60 time should square the ST up with it's competitors, the Corsa VXR and Abarth Grande Punto.
The chassis will be retrofitted to make things stick as well as the outgoing model and Ford plans to offer plenty of upgrades through its partnership with Mountune racing.
The new Fiesta will hit dealers abroad in the Fall, with the ST following sometime in 2009. Whether or not Ford will bring the ST to the States when the Fiesta makes the trek across the Atlantic remains to be seen.

Ford NA could sooo sell the &^#@ outta that thing to the civic crowd. Good looking, probably handles great, excellent power, and it would get excellent gas mileage with an eco-boost powerplant. What is not to like? Great commuter car IMO.

I'm sure Ford N.A. is researching all sorts of reasons why it won't bring it over here, leaving us with that pathetic Pug-ugly Focus redo here in the States.
But wow, is that little Fiesta ever hot! A shame Ford N.A.'s myopic world-view will make it unlikely here as it would make an excellent counter to the Mini, i.e., stylish, fun-to-drive small car that's more than a dray econobox.
I had an original late '70's Fiesta for a while, a rather interesting design that must have been the easiest car in the world to work on. Sharp looking and very fun to drive in a perky way.

For one, the Focus and Fiesta are seperate segments. Part of the reason the Euro-Focus is so upscale is becuase the Fiesta holds down the low end of the market for FOE. For two, and it IS coming here, see BON and the ford exec interviews where they talk about the importance of the B segment. This is why they're finally giving us the Euro-focus in a couple years. When NA has Fiesta it will be able to accomodate a higher-spec Focus.

Man, that would be cool if they did bring over the Fiesta, not all castrated and softened up for "American tastes." Forgive me for my skepticism on whether Ford N.A. will actually come through though, but cheers if they do.
Now about bringing over that hot new Mondeo too...

they need something in the small car market, preferably with mileage close or better than the prius, 35-40 isnt unattainable
