Mulally wants KA in NA

Getting more definitive that they "want" it over here, but still not saying they "will."

I guess it would be fine here in the US, as long as they don't lose money on it. Federalizing it will probably cost quite a bit and I don't see something that small being a big seller. The Fiesta is probably as small as most Americans would want.

A Ford Sportka would be a fairly decent alternative to my Mini Cooper, but unfortunately the Ka as they exist in Europe right now are either terribly underpowered in the standard versions (0-60 mph in 14 seconds) or fairly inefficient in the Sportka (low 30's mpg) while still not being very fast (0-60 in almost 10 seconds). I personally think the Fiesta is going to be a better fit here than the Ka would be. The Fiests is still small, only 12" longer than the Ka, but most of the current Fiestas are more efficient and quicker than the Ka. Only way I could see the Ka working here is if it was a super low budget entry level car coming in under $9k or $10k.

I don' think the Ka should come here, i think the fiesta will be enough below the focus.

even though americas are dumb enough to buy those SMART(dumb) cars.

I agree. Who and where would the market be for the Ka? And is there any equivalent being sold in America, outside of the Smart Car? And how is the Smart Car doing here?

I think the Focus and Fiesta will take care of this smaller car segment for the time being. And by all accounts, the new Fiesta is a terrific little car.

The 1.2 Zetec in the Ka gets 36/53, would be pretty appealing to residents of dense urban area.

As cute as this thing is, people in America won't want it with a 0-60 in 14 seconds performance. 0-60 in 10 maybe, but I can't see many buyers with a 14 second performance.

The car is cute though and I'd rather have it than a Smart.

I hope not.

Don't fret, though, because one innovative company IS still making cameras in the U.S. - and are on the verge of announcing a major new innovation in digital still cameras >> http://www.red.com/

Wasn't too long ago it looked like Boeing, the last commercial airline producer in the US, was on its way out the door as well. Douglas and MD were absorbed, Lockheed bailed. But Boeing is still around. Even if the Big 3 all die, cars will still be made here.
