Mulally already shaking up Ford

Here's the link to the article. Here are some notable quotes:

He's focusing on creating a team atmosphere and promoting a new directness and honesty meant to cut through Ford's often-hidebound culture.
Mulally wants Ford's finance staff to support the business, not control it as in years past. The number-crunchers will have a place at the table, but inferior or stripped-down vehicles won't go on the road just to make budget.

Ford insiders say financial executives have traditionally had a broad say over the budget, including vehicle programs. That has engendered what some call a "culture of stretch," in which product development executive executives overestimate sales volumes and revenues in order to get vehicle programs approved by finance.
Mulally has said he wants to intensify the focus on the customer.
He's working on getting rid of his Lexus in favor of a Ford, possibly a Five Hundred sedan. He also has been familiarizing himself with Ford's lineup by driving a different model nearly every day, including the Ford Edge, the roomy crossover vehicle due on the market in November.

Can only hope those points you posted come true, are implemented quickly, and have the intended effects of turning Ford around.

As for the last part about his Lexus and driving different Ford vehicles, that's a nice symbolic gesture - why "work to get rid of it" when he can send it to me? Can sell it to help pay for a new Bullitt! LOL.

Mulally gestured to a financial chart that showed a precipitous decline followed by an upward turn. He pointed to the lowest point.
"Guys," he said, "let's get to the bottom as quick as we can, because let me tell you, the ride up is a lot of fun."

This means there could be more good stuff in it for the customer, not just looking at the final line to make more cash....

...cutting 10 dollars a car to put in plastic over _____ to make more money... in the long run sucks, because you may alienate 20 buyers who can make you more by commiting to that choice

About bloody time!

500 is an interesting choice of car for a CEO. I've always thought it is pretty classy, but it is still not exactly a luxury car. He doesn't even want to switch it up to a Montego? Maybe his image is doing just fine, and he'd like to help out the image of the 500.

I'm wondering if the fact that he hasn't actually grabed one yet means he's waiting to get one of the first re-design 500s. Would be a much classier CEO vehicle than the current car, IMO.

Coming from a Lexus, no doubt he's waiting for the 'new' 500 w/ the 3.5L in it.

Some good vision statements there. Let's hope that he's not just paying lip service (esp. 'intensify the focus on the customer' -- that should be a no-brainer IMO) and that he follows through.

What he ought to do is walk into a Ford store in anytown, usa (who would recognize him?) and inquire about a Shelby...
