Thank you Fields, Mulally, or Farley, whoever it was that gave the Hatch the Green Light!

Zastava_101 5/30/08 02:48 PM

I've been waiting for official pictures.

codeman94 5/30/08 04:15 PM

I will buy one if it gets 40 mpg.

Zastava_101 5/30/08 06:00 PM

I don't expect more than 28 mpg.

codeman94 5/30/08 06:12 PM

really?....I thought this thing was supposed to be ecoboosteriffic and 100mpg??

Zastava_101 5/30/08 06:36 PM

Since Focus 2.0L is able to get "only" 24 mpg city, I don't expect more than 28 mpg city with Fiesta 1.6L. I hope I'm wrong.

codeman94 5/30/08 06:40 PM

well that will be a giant let down...I hope ford doest blow it.

Black331 5/30/08 07:12 PM

Yes! Someone at Ford has a brain! Hatchbacks are the best thing for small cars..

So you think a car smaller and lighter than a Focus will get worse mileage?????:screwy:

watchdevil 5/30/08 07:18 PM

Great news about the hatchback.... Just too late to the market since the other car in my household is a Toyota Yaris 3-door... If Ford made it earlier this year it would have been the Fiesta in the driveway instead.

Worse? Focus can't get more than 24 mpg in the city. How is 28 mpg worse than 24 mpg?

codeman94 5/30/08 08:03 PM

well...I was thinking in the way of highway mpg....if it doest get at least 37...I'm getting a mini cooper....cause it does.

Lalo 5/30/08 08:46 PM

man... that looks so sweet.
if it is around 16k and gets good mileage it will be a big time winner, and the car i get when my minima finally poops out.

A manual 1.6L Fiesta of the current generation is rated at about 44mpg (combine cycle) with a manual transmission in Europe. Typically you can knock off just under 20% to figure out what the highway number would be, under the new standards, in America which would translate into ~37mpg. (what are the odds?) To be fair this is a crude way to try and get a figure but as rules of thumb go it isn't bad.

Also worth noting is that the 1.6L should receive some updates and the new Fiesta is lighter than the old model......you should easily get your 37mpg wish and, if I had to guess, I'd say odds are good the highway number will start with a 4.

I was thinking maybe Scion xB or xA since they're rated at 32/38 mpg. But Fiesta should be able to get 37 mpg on the highway. Even Focus can almost do that.

But then again, there is Chevy Aveo with 1.6L that's rated at 24/34 mpg (very low for such a small car with such a small engine) so we'll have to wait for Fiesta's numbers.

But I really want Marauder. I saw one of them on the highway today and it looked so mean.

It all depends on gas prices.

I think $16,000 is little too much.

Hatchback should be around $13,000 and sedan around $15,000.

I don't wanna pay more for Fiesta than I would've paid for Fit, Yaris od Versa. Ford's prices is one of the reasons why I like them so much.

Lalo 5/31/08 09:05 AM

if he 3-door is more affordable, that would be great! that's the one i would go for.
i've seen some three door models cost more than their 5 door counterparts (or even hatch cost more than sedan version)

edumspeed 5/31/08 10:46 AM

At last, we can get an euro-spec car here without alterations! This is as good as having the Mazda 2, cuz in essence it's the same car, sans sheetmetal. Can't wait for official Mpg #'s.

The car will be ready before the Ecoboost fours will. Thre is a 1.6L Ecoboost under development which insiders are currently placing at 200hp/200lb-ft of torque. Such an engine could easily find it's way into a hi-po version of the Fiesta and deliver street scalding performance and jaw dropping mileage...I would be very interested in one if this comes to pass.

Also worth mentioning is that the car pictured in the link Moosetang gives above is a Euro Spec version. The US spec version is getting a more pronounced grille and arguably looks better for it. See the NA nose here...

http://www.theautochannel.com

Only the front clip is going to be vastly different with the rest of the new Fiesta's exterior being identical worldwide.......tail lights excepted.

Current rumors seem to be hinting at a base model 3-door starting at 13k.

Hollywood_North GT 5/31/08 08:55 PM

Seems from that photo you linked to that Ford has found a way to integrate the European kinetic design ethos with North America's three-bar grille...with a result that is actually quite pleasing aesthetically >>

I hope my taurus lasts until that comes out then...

THAT is gorgeous

Lalo 6/1/08 09:29 AM

boooooo!:bad:
why do they have to muss it up with so much freaking chrome?!
very tacky imo.
take it off from the side window and the bumper lights and it would look MUCH better. I also don't like how it rounds out the grills.
the rear light looks a bit suspect as well

Zastava_101 6/1/08 12:20 PM

It's just a Verve concept, not actual Fiesta.

ah. very well then:blush::grin:

Zastava_101 6/1/08 01:14 PM

But Fiesta will be based on Verve concept. :)

future9er24 6/1/08 01:19 PM

 It says it right in the background. Boy am I smart.

Still, good news if its based on that

Lalo 6/1/08 02:02 PM

i just thought they were going to rename it the verve for the states

Zastava_101 6/1/08 02:17 PM

This should clear some stuff.

Besides the hatchback, the compact sedan that will come out of Cuautitlán plant will be entirely inspired by the Verve Sedan presented at the 2008 Detroit Auto Show (possibly only with minor changes).

Blue Notch 6/1/08 05:37 PM

I don't like the way cars are starting to look. They're just ugly.

It is one of the Verve concept cars but not all Verve concept cars wear/wore the same front fascia. One Verve concept front fascia http://www.egmcartech.com effectively mirrored what we are now seeing as the production European Fiesta while, according to at least one Ford insider, the other Verve concept, links to which were provided earlier in this thread, wears a front fascia which forecasts what we can expect to see here in North America.

Given the fact that one of the two concepts has already morphed, nearly without change, into the Euro spec production model and that the 'other' concept takes that same basic look and incorporates a larger, 3 bar grille into the mix...a look which is a trademark of newer North American Ford product.....I see little reason to doubt his accuracy. (Also, I wonder if anybody else here has noticed that the 3 bar grille in that Verve/Fiesta sedan shot looks amazingly like the grille setup we saw on the leaked next gen Taurus photos...right down to the thinner grille bars)

What you saw in the earlier link is what the North American car's schnoz is going to look like and is, effectively, what the North American Fiesta is going to look like as a whole with the possible exception of some chrome and the obvious exception of smaller wheels.

Zastava_101 6/1/08 09:38 PM

My personal favorite is a two-door hatchback ...

... but for some reason it really reminds me of Fiat Punto.

Moosetang 6/1/08 09:55 PM

MT, shockingly, makes a good point in their latest issue when they point out that many specific cues like the angled headlights and the big lower intake are going to be Ford's global design cues, while the upper grille and some other details will be tailored for each market.

UK is seeming sticking with smallish, egg-crate opening while our grilles stay 3-bar; though will apparently move to the thiner, sleeker look of the Taurus spyshots and Verve Sedan concept. This is starting after the refreshed Fusion gives us the last hurrah of the current look.

Cheese302 6/2/08 08:38 AM

i like the hatch, but i also think the sedan looks really nice, am anxious to test drive one.

Lalo 6/3/08 05:46 PM

is the hatch coming over?

Zastava_101 6/3/08 08:01 PM

Yep.

codeman94 6/4/08 04:26 PM

I hope that sedan doesnt have tiny taillights like the focus

future9er24 6/5/08 06:39 AM

I'm with you on that Cody, I really hope the tailights are bigger than what's being shown. Otherwise, ,its going to look really bad from the back

The face seems to be looking good though :nice:

Where are you getting 24mpg?

I own a 2007 Focus 2.0L and I average around 27-28 city and around 38-40 hwy.

Zastava_101 6/5/08 08:17 AM

Edmunds.

Zastava_101 6/5/08 09:25 AM

Actually you have a previous model of Focus, not the new one.

2000-2007 Focus w/ 2.0L was rated at 27 mpg city, 37 mpg highway.

http://www.edmunds.com/used/2007/for...834/specs.html

Knight 6/5/08 09:28 AM

If you convert that to the 2008 rating system it is rated the same, and the 2008 system is not accurate, the 2007 and older one is more so, and even that under shoots the cars real stats.

Zastava_101 6/5/08 09:34 AM

I'm glad to hear that Focus has better fuel economy than Edmunds reported.

My Fusion is rated at 20 city, 28 highway. According to message center in my Fusion I'm getting 25-26 mpg on a city driving. Can't complain.

Knight 6/5/08 09:54 AM

So even if the fiesta comes out rated at like 28 city i bet it will do will above 30. and prob 45 hwy.

Zastava_101 6/5/08 10:17 AM

I hope so.

Cheese302 6/10/08 05:14 AM

looking forwrd to a test drive. i think the sedan has some really slick lines to it, and thats a lot comin from a hatchback lover. Although i must say i will give the chevy beat a try when i am actually going to buy a new small car.

rhumb 6/10/08 03:14 PM

What's most appealing about the Fiesta is that while, of course, it's an efficient econobox, it is my no means a dray, penury penalty box. It has fantastic styling inside and out, well done detailing and is supposed to be a hoot to drive -- a wonderful, viable small car rather than merely something to put up with until one can afford a "real," big car in more traditional Detroit thinking.

Zastava_101 6/12/08 11:24 AM

codeman94 6/12/08 12:48 PM

where was that taken?

kevinb120 6/12/08 03:49 PM

This needs to be released to the US the day it's finished for EU/SA markets, not wait almost a year after production is underway.
