BASED on the Flex, but clearly NOT a re-badged Flex

So is this a concept or actual model?

Interior is very concept, exterior's supposedly close to production. Waiting to see what Blue et all have to say on the differences.

Here's the link to Autoblog's article on the MKT.

The idea of 415-hp, 400-ft lbs tq, V6 has me wondering if I can fit one of those in my 2000 V6 Mustang. I can see some potential improvement in performance over my 3.8.

What is the point of this vehicle? Is it supposed to be like an Infiniti FX4 or something?

If so, then what is the point of the MKX?

Aren't TWO Lincoln luxury, premium utility vehicles just going to siphon sales away from one another?

I like it. I hope production model will be the same.

Bear in mind that while the concept seats only 4, Horbury said in his presentation that in production it could "easily accomodate 7 passengers."

Do you interpret that statement to imply the MKX stays (as a two row CUV) in the Lincoln line-up and the MKT takes the next-larger slot as a 3-row CUV, rather than MKT replacing the MKX?

Essentially yes. There had been speculation/whining that the MKX needed a third row, I think the MKT reduces the case for that. With the Navigator as the 7-seat SUV and the MKT as the 7-seat people mover, the next MKX need not have a third row and can stay a smaller, sportier CUV.

There's also talk that this will replace the Town Car in the Lincoln line-up.

That thing will definitely have 3 rows, the Flex is huge. After seeing the stretched Freestyle mule and hearing Flex platform-mate, the concept blew me away. I say F-it, go bold, I like it! Panel lines and facia arrangements look very much like a production vehicle's layout. I would imagine they would hide the interior. A few zingers like this and Ford's excellent AWD and 6F transmission could really put this Lincoln on the map. At first glace on the blogs I was like 'oh cripes what's this' and after a few minutes looking at it I'm diggin it.

I can't help feeling it's still part of the same old "Let's build another big SUV" mentality, though.

I dunno quite how to classify/react to this thing - which may be part of my concern. I think the general public may react the same way: "WTF is this supposed to BE, exactly?"

I dunno either, but the picture of the MKT reminds me of "Ultraman"...
