Lincoln developing duo of 400+ horsepower EcoBoost V6 engines?

While specifics are still unavailable, Ford insiders with future product knowledge have reportedly confirmed to InsideFordNews that Lincoln is working on not one, but two new EcoBoost engines, both V6s and both producing over 400 horsepower.
Leftlane previously brought you the news that the Navigator was expected to receive the 3.5-liter EcoBoost currently topping the F-150 engine range, with its 365 horsepower and 420 lb-ft of torque in Ford form, but this new information suggests the Navigator’s version of the engine may get a bit of a boost to hit or barely break the 400 barrier.
As for the second rumored EcoBoost V6 engine, the suggestion can mean only one thing: a twin-turbocharged and direct-injected 3.7-liter variant, finding its roots in the naturally-aspirated 305 horsepower powerplant found in the latest Mustang, among other Ford products for 2012. The inside source suggested this mill will be good for 425 horsepower, which seems likely given the naturally aspirated 3.5-liter V6 and 3.7-liter V6 engines have a 30 horsepower difference.

I haven't heard anything about RWD. As far as I know, MKZ will still be Fusion based and MKS will still be Taurus based. Both Fusion and Taurus are FWD and AWD.

From what I've seen AWD/FWD with a RWD model based off the next Mustang. And Navigator, for now. People are saying "continental" and "Flagship" in reaction, but most of those with insights just say "RWD model," which could mean many things.
I've also seen some talk of an Audi-style longitudinal FWD/RWD/AWD platform in the works for the second half of this decade, but its pretty speculative right now.

Even if they borrow it from the Falcon underpinnings? I wouldnt really see the point of developing an engine without being able to put it between the shock towers somewhere

What makes you think they've just now started working on it? For all we know, Lincoln could have been developing a RWD vehicle for years.

I'd guess the earliest we'd see that is when the new platform Mustang bows its head. Think mid-late 2014. I'd guess they'll build it at AAI alongside the Mustang.

Lincoln is apparently looking at a large, rwd car as a flagship....but that doesn't mean anything is going to happen anytime soon or that enough has happened for us to see much evidence of the same. (and to be blunt Ford has gotten very good at keeping secrets of late) Frankly I think the writing was on the wall for this some time ago as, with the next Taurus purported to be moving onto a stretched EUCD platform, there really isn't anything in the works upon which to base a truly large, future Lincoln sedan unless the largest future Lincoln sedan is intended to be the size of the Buick LaCrosse. Throw in the fact that the rumor mill is indicating the the next generation MKZ might actually be based on the EUCD Taurus platform, and that there will not be a compact Lincoln of any sort, and either Lincoln is moving to a one sedan strategy or there is something else in the works.
And that there is going to be a Mustang-based Lincoln, or even a few, doesn't mean that there isn't another rwd Lincoln under consideration. Just my two cents.

I think that depends upon your definition of a confirmation. Personally, I am entirely comfortable that Lincoln is looking into a large, rwd platform at this point. That does not mean that such a thing will ever come to fruition or that the level of consideration involved is seriously beyond the 'what if/early planning' stage.

Nothing's been confirmed yet, but I would guess we may start to see concepts of a sportier sedan in the next year or so.
I can't see the MKZ on the EUCD platform. It makes sense to keep it on the CD3/CD4 platform for now, and make the MKS the flagship, or even an MKR. There was talk about Lincoln spawning it's own performance brand too, for what it's worth. I think if they can produce a 3-series competitor, then taking the insight of SVT and the engines/weapons at their disposal, then they should go for it.
