Very slick Paul. I owned a Thunderbird Turbo Coupe for a time and always wished that I'd gotten a Mk VII instead. Don't get me wrong TC's are fantastric cars....but Mk VII's really pull off the premium luxury coupe look and in the right years/trim levels came with nice little goodies like a 5.0L HO V8.

In fact, while I've often wished for a proper Cougar revival based on the Mustang, I always find myself wondering if a Mk VII redux wouldn't be a better idea. Arguably the MkVII was a great deal like the 67-70 Cougar's in terms of size and appeal anyway.

Funny thing is before I bought my first Mark VII I had a Cougar and was preparing to do a 5 speed swap on it....I saw the Mark VII and dumped the cougar!

I have also played with the Turbo Coupes....here is one I was working on....I had so many projects that I wanted to do before finishing this one that I gave up on the project in favor of some others. I still have the car here but sold the hood to a customer for his Turbo Coupe that we are restoring now. The hood is a one-off that we created and is all metal.

 

I do love a nice Turbo Coupe in black. The SVO style hood scoop is pretty difficult to argue against as well as it really fits in well with the flow of the car. In fact, while I typically feel that factory hood 'candy' is better implemented than even the best aftermarket stuff far more often than not this is a much better look for the TC than those stock twin NACA vents were IMHO. I really like it.

My plan for my TC was to replace the rather tired turbo four with a 4.6L V8 Mod motor. Two Mod motors came and went during my ownership of the car but neither ever managed to make an appearance under the hood. So it goes.

 

That Turbo Coupe was originally a fire damaged car having had an engine fire caused by the alternator.....at the time of those pics I had installed a 5.0 and 5 speed along with a 5 lug conversion using Mark VII rear end parts and SN95 Mustang front spindles and brakes. There was just no value in the car when finished and I didn't want to tie up the parts and money only to have nobody want it if I decided to sell it later...which was likely with that car.

Now I do plan a 4.6 DOHC swap into both my '64 Marauder and '68 Cougar...I've got the donor engines but the time is what is in short supply....

Hey, SVO was the M5 swap as straight forward as in a fox body Mustang? When I converted my 91 over to manual, I found it to be a fairly easy swap (one of the reasons that chassis is so near and dear to me).
