Yeah, I just posted the mustang sales in this thread. http://forums.bradbarnett.net/showpo...87&postcount=2

As I stated there, I think the sales are down because of the incentives in December probably grabbed some of the sales that would have occurred in January.

I was trying hard myself to find an 06 to buy, but couldn't find one on a lot that I liked (not a lot of spoiler delete satin silver GTs with side airbags, 3:55s and anti-theft)

Another theory I read on Blue Oval Forums is that since V6 Mustangs are often sold to rental fleets and Ford is doing away with fleet sales, that accounts for the slight drop in Mustang sales. I don't know how much validity there is in that theory but it kind of makes sense to me.

Could be. In the link above I went back and calculated the 2 month average for Dec & Jan for the last 3 years.
This would filter out the effects of this year's winter sales incentives.

After doing this, sales are still down compared to the previous 2 years.

Ford cut Mustang V6 fleet sales starting at the introduction of the S-197 Mustang. So I doubt that fewer rental sales had much of anything to do with the drop in January 07 Mustang sales. 18 months ago Ford changed Mustang production to be 47% V8 - 53% V6 from the traditional 37% V8 - 63% V6 due to sagging V6 sales.

V6 Mustang sales are in the toilet because most non gearheads don't consider a Mustang. They're mostly buying imports. The V6 Mustang is too crude & rude and lacks the amenities that buyers want.

If Ford wants to boost V6 sales it needs to put in the D35 V6, IRS, climate control, telescoping steering wheel, seats that slide forward for back seat access and remember their settings, improve NVH, etc. That's what the market demands these days.

It doesn't make much sense to build cars to give away. Ford said they stopped caring about numbers over profit margin for the future. Wasn't it Lyons that said congratulations to Chevy for being the number one maker of rental cars when Chevy announced #1 in sales volume a couple years ago?

Weak winter hit trucks hard, and announcing new products and product updates so far ahead of release isn't helping either. In the past year I have never seen so many people comming into dealers looking for products that weren't out yet(the 'improved' 500 since last YEAR, the edge, the 6.4 SD, AWD fusion, ect ect)...
