Ford Edge/Lincoln Aviator

The 2007 Ford Edge and Lincoln Aviator crossover utility vehicles will debut in Detroit. Both models feature a new 3.5-liter, 250-hp, 240-lb-ft 24-valve dohc V6 linked to a new six-speed automatic transmission created for front-drive applications. The transmission, which also can be used in all-wheel-drive vehicles and is capable of handling up to 300 hp and 280 lb-ft of torque, is the product of a joint engineering effort with General Motors. The engine, which Ford says will power one in five Ford vehicles by 2010, is designed to accommodate hybrid technology, direct gasoline injection and turbocharging. Look for Edge and Aviator in dealerships next fall, in front- and all-wheel-drive configurations.

Regardless of where other companies are, this is definitely a great step forward for ford. I wonder what kind of applications a turbocharged 3.5 would see. I'm thinking it could definitely end up in an SVT fusion. I dunno what else though.

haha, "forward for ford" is a funny thing to say out loud.

What applications is the Nissan VQ Hybrid, and Turbo? And isn't Ford's 3.5, while not as powerful as Nissan's, classified as a cleaner emmisions engine?

Sorry, didnt mean to diminish the accomplishment, just making a comment on where ford is sitting.

Would 300hp and 280tq be the max that tranny can take? Or are they just saying thats the most they would likely put into it from the factory?

No need to be sorry. I didn't take your post to be negative at all. I was just asking questions to rebut your questions, but not in a negative way.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but what other American manufacturer has a 250+hp V-6 that can take on the Nissan? Nissan has had literally 2 decades to massage and perfect that same basic engine.

As an aside, the $50,000 Infinity (Nissan) QX has been deemed Americas most unreliable vehicle. Period. Nissan like Toyota is not bulletproof.

They had a variation in the 300M Special what made 255HP/258TQ.

Not to worry on the Ford V6. I believe there'll be variations making more power depending on the application. I've also heard that there'll be larger displacement versions in the future as well. THis 250HP/240TQ version we're getting now is just the starting point.
