Ford's May sales

Honda Civic, Toyota Camry, Toyota Corolla and Honda Accord all outsold F-Series.

Another bad month. Cars did pretty well, but entire line of bigger vehicles did horribly bad. Even popular Escape and Edge had a decline in sales.

Focus, Fusion, Taurus, Taurus X, Milan, Sable, & MKZ are all up in sales, though.

Well not surprised, I mean Mustang buyers are aware that the car is getting a facelift, I am waiting for it myself.

Not shocking, GM was down about 30% this month. Their SUV/trucks were down something like 39%. It's a really tough time for the big-vehicle-heavy American companies.

Anybody else notice that, at this rate, Focus sales are trending about 400k units a year? Absolutely stunning since this car has been lambasted online....yet more proof that while the internet is a great place to find opinionated people you might be well advised not to listen to what they are saying more often than not.

The reality is that C170 was and is a very good chassis and that Ford has done a phenomenal job of packaging the options people want into a car with a surprisingly nice interior at a very attractive price. And given the age of the platform and the fact that the basics really haven't changed, I'll bet Ford is making a decent amount of money on the old girl.

If Ford is considering a Renault Logan-esque budget world car C170 might be the ideal chassis from which to engineer that car.

I agree, I have been saying this for quite some time myself. All the online "enthusiasts" have been wrong about this car, about how it was so ugly it wouldn't sell, and that the lack of a hatch would kill it, and how because it's not the C1, it's doomed. Real buyers are voting with their wallets. Read the owner reviews at Edmunds or Yahoo and look at how the majority of buyers rank the styling highly.

Yes, compared to most of the competition, it's still a more sophisticated design, so why shouldn't Ford build on it and improve it and maybe finally make a profit on the Focus (IIRC, they were selling each Focus at a loss from an article I read in 2005).

That could be a good idea...

That is not the problem, sales of the old SN-95 Mustang held up quite well until the last 3 months before the S-197 introduction. Much of the drop in SN-95 sales in those final months was due to lack of inventory.

The current Mustang has another problem, it is perceived as a gas hog.
Not saying it's true, but most people I cross paths with believe Mustangs are gas hogs.

With a city average of 13-14 MPG, I would have to say my Mustang GT is a gas hog.

This is a good start. Now all you need to do is copy and paste the above when you respond to future posts by yours truly and....you've got it.

You must either be extreme city driving like bumper to bumper and non stop stop lights or really lead footed.

I think most GT owners get high teens city driving.

Yes, I get 16 MPG in extreme bumper to bumper traffic (traffic in which it takes 45 minutes to drive five miles) and 19 MPG in average city traffic.

I drive carefully and pay attention to the RPM and get 27 mpg in town in my 05 Focus. Do you any other choice if gas keeps going up? Glad to see Ford not totally counting on truck and large SUV sales to make money. People always vote with their pocket books and wallets.

I'm neither lead footed nor traveling in extreme bumper-to-bumper traffic. But it is a lot of stop-and-go and relatively short hops.

On the other hand, could be my mileage computer ain't workin' right. Not really sure. I go about 200 miles on a fill-up, I know that.

Makes me glad I have a "old" stang, even with the Vortech and 381rwhp I get about 22-23 city and 27 highway.
