This is exactly why those fins are in the tailpipe at the exhaust outlet. To help cool the exhaust when it does a burn. ( I think I worded that rigit)

Remember, this is probably not the happiest time to be a Ford factory worker. From what I've read, morale has been pretty low amongst the rank & file over the past few months, and it's likely to have an impact on workmanship. I wouldn't doubt you'll see more defects showing up here and there on North American built vehicles for the next little while as the company adjusts through this painful and difficult transition.

I would think this is more of a Navistar quality issue rather than a Ford one (although Ford is ultimately responsible for it).
