Ford posts best third quarter ever

Ford Posts Better-Than-Expected 3Q Profit

Published October 30, 2012

Ford Motor (F) on Tuesday reported a better-than-expected profit for the third quarter on the strength of higher vehicle prices and lower costs in North America.
The second-largest U.S. automaker reported an operating profit of $2.2 billion, or 40 cents per share, up from $1.9 billion or 34 cents per share a year earlier.
The average Wall Street estimate called for Ford to make 30 cents per share, according to Thomson Reuters I/B/E/S.
Third quarter net income was $1.63 billion or 41 cents a share. Revenue fell 3 percent to $32.1 billion, better than the $30.9 billion expected by analysts.

It was the best third quarter ever for the automaker. In North America, Ford made $2.3 billion, the third straight quarter the automaker made more than $2 billion in the market.

Ford lost $468 million in Europe, where industry sales have fallen to their lowest level in nearly 20 years. Ford expects to lose at least $3 billion in Europe over the next two years.

Ford North America achieved its highest quarterly profit and operating margin since at least 2000 when the
company started reflecting the region as a separate business unit, with third quarter pre-tax profit of
$2.3 billion and a 12 percent operating margin

IIRC he got an article published in some euro auto rag. No wonder Ford sales are struggling in Europe!

To be fair FMC still needs to address their quality issues (or perceived lack of quality issues to those "regular" folks that stand by Consumer Reports) or these great results will be all for not. However, one can't dispute the great operating margin indicated by these results . . . at least for the moment.

yeah, no doubt, this is just a good starting point. They've still got a ways to go. I want to see Ford dominating the car scene again, and I think they've got the basis to do it. Wish I was in a top management chair at FoMoCo, and could help it along!

Between personal Fords and company vehicles that were all Ford, I've driven 8 since 1981. 4.9L I6, several 350's, a 460, the V10 (414?), and now the 4.6L 3V. Took all the company vehicles over 100k, my F150 4x has 253k, Bullitt just 19k.

Not one has had to go back to the dealer for anything, nor has any one of them ever stranded me - whether it was rural or city driving, summer or winter cutting the first tracks across several 5k passes.

I haven't read Consumer Reports complaints but I can't imagine that I 'just got lucky' with that many trouble free experiences with Ford. That's why I keep coming back and so I am a source of recurring profit for Ford because of their producing consistent quality over a 30+ year period.

we've had several Ford's over the years as well, and even with my mother driving them (she's terrible on cars) we haven't had anything other than nitpicky stuff go wrong. One of the rear windows on dad's Mountaineer is a bit wonky where it doesn't always go down, and we had a parking brake sensor on a Windstar that malfunctioned, which we never worried about fixing. Other than that, it's been nothing that wasn't caused by a driver or just stuff that wears out.

I did. care to read the article? I'd like to hear your opinions since you believe that "One Ford" doesn't work.

Well, if you really wanna my opinion, I know Ford's history pretty well and Ford never really had a successful global car. Well, maybe Model T was ...

Anyway, Ford Europe continues to lose money month after month with One Ford vehicles and Ford USA is still making 1/3 of it profits on the F-Series - not on global One Ford vehicles (Fiesta, Focus, Transit Connect ...).

Just my .02.

That's nice!

The first Avalon that ever looked nice IMO.

Personally I like the looks of that Kia Optima.

Don't know much but based on looks I think it looks far better than the Fusion, Altima, Accord, or Camry.

I would still not buy a Kia but the optima limited is a beautiful car. And no, the Taurus and Fusion don't look as good.

Lol. Probably. I also work with a girl that couldn't resist when she saw the optima. So far she loves the car. White limited with the glass roof. It's a fine car.
