Ford uses it's names on different vehicles as we know. I just thought I would show the "Same Name, Different Car" pics between Europe and the US. All model years are the same where possible.

First off the Fusion :

USA http://www.fordvehicles.com/assets/i...g_fusion_1.jpg

UK http://www.carpages.co.uk/guide/@ima...d-fusion-+.jpg

1997 Cougar (where I think the UK version is a lot better)

USA http://it.calhoun.edu/oak/VEHICLES/97cougar.jpg

UK http://www.parkers.co.uk/imagecache/..._Cougar_05.jpg
http://www.parkers.co.uk/imagecache/..._Cougar_06.jpg

The Escort:

USA http://www.theautochannel.com/vehicl...cort_zx2_b.jpg

UK http://www.sdsc.co.uk/escort16v/DSCF0665.jpg

I think the only model that arrived here in RHD that is the same as the US version in the Ranger, even then, the engines are smaller over here.......

Hope you enjoyed this pointless topic!

James

jgsmuzzy 11/30/05 03:44 AM

OK, just realised that you got the new cougar as well...... oh bugger, makes this thread that little bit more pointless :jester:

mr-mstng 11/30/05 07:07 AM

The UK escort looks like the last generation USA one with a nose job.

1999 Black 35th GT 11/30/05 07:49 AM

I like that UK version of the Fusion too.

SVTJayC 11/30/05 08:08 AM

You think an underpowered, 2 door Contour is better than a V8 RWD sports coupe with IRS. You are going to get crucified. We got that cougar here too you know? This could be the dumbest post ive ever seen.

Why thank you! You really should read a thread before coming out with smart remarks mate, look at the second post, I commented on the Cougar being available in the US....and I said this was a pointless thread, and I also was commenting on looks, not engineering..........

Who looks dumb now??

Andy,

The Fusion here is actually smaller than an Escort, so not really in the same league as a US Fusion!

Yeah, I noticed that. I just like the look of it. Very clean. :nice:

I love your response James! That was great

mr-mstng 11/30/05 09:51 AM

Looks like SVTJayC just got :own3d:

JeffreyDJ 11/30/05 09:57 AM

:rofl2:

Back to topic.

Agreed, that UK Escort looks like the early 90's version with different "nose" ... My dad had a tracer for commuting, very similiar lines.

I also find it amusing the "Fusion's" have the same/similiar headlights.

SVTJayC 11/30/05 10:39 AM

How did i get owned? This is a dumb post. He took 3 random cars, who's dates of production don't even match up. Dumb.

Where does he say it's based on looks only? This is the quote "1997 Cougar (where I think the UK version is a lot better)"

IS a lot better. not LOOKS a lot better.

And in his final comment, he talks about engines? And it's ME that needs help with English?

He's just showing the difference between the vehicles man. And if you noticed he said

I think the UK version is a lot better
You know he's allowed to have his own opinion on what he thinks is better. Its not a personal attack on you.

you missed out the fact that I said "Same Name, different car" and then talked about a truck. God, I must be dumb.

Oh, the COugars are 1 year apart (they were released in 1997 here), the escorts are the same year, the fusions are as well. And, as a disclaimer, I beleive I stated that the years are the same where possible.

Now fella, leave this one here, can't we all be friends? I do believe it was you that attacked me first. I haven't even started to respond to being called dumb by a member I have never had dealings with yet ;)

JeffreyDJ 11/30/05 01:21 PM

I bet James doesn't even smell color right!!! He must be stupid!

Also, its interesting to point out that the UK version of the Cougar has US styled plates, and the steering wheel on the left side. :P

:rofl2:

Seriously, SVTJayC, I'd just settle down ... I thought the thread was fairly interesting for what it was. No one was attacking you on this. There may be people WHO DO prefer the newer Cougar to the older one. There opinion doesn't have to match yours to be valid.

It also doesn't make it a "stupid" post ... I've seen far stupider, and I've probably been guilty of posting a few that were too.

jgsmuzzy 11/30/05 01:55 PM

it might be German, they have LHD.....This thread is going from bad to worse

How about this one? although it is a 1999

http://www.ukcougar.com/images/Meeti...y/DCP_0317.JPG

JeffreyDJ 11/30/05 02:01 PM

But, but, but ...

The plate, I say. Look at the license plate in the first picture! :)

Side note: What kinda of car gets into a car show with primer all over the fender? Look in the upper right.

Must be a wacky European fad :P Either that or the person had one too many pints of guinness! Crazy foreigners

I know I must be getting dangerously close to being whomped right now. :jester:

JeffreyDJ 11/30/05 02:22 PM

Maybe gray primer is in style in Deutschland.

jgsmuzzy 11/30/05 03:53 PM

that last pic was a ford show in the UK. The car is a Capri that is in theprocess of restoration.

Bugger, there is another comparison I could have used

Well now that explains it all. James were you painting that car? After all you did turn your garage door into Big Bird :jester:

Nah, all I have to do is hold a Guiness hostage. :jester:

I hear their are some great air prices if you wanna visit :P

jgsmuzzy 11/30/05 04:35 PM

I don't drink the stuff............ and the air fares would have to be free at the moment!

Anyway, stop making me hijack my own, very serious thread.

How 'bout if I hijack it for ya?

ISELLFORD 11/30/05 08:09 PM

This is the Focus Diesel I had as a rental in France last year. Not even close to ours, better ride, handling, and comfort. The diesel 5 speed was awesome.

ha! proof that im not the only one who does that! HAHA!

:jester:

oh and i like "bugger" and "whomping" in the earlier posts. definatly going to add those into my vocabulary and try and factor them into my every day speech :P

while im going on and on about words from other places, i also like "g'day" and "bloke"

two more cool foreign words that are still in english :D

does this count as hijacking? i mean, its already been done about 5 times before i got here, so is mine excused? please?

oh and that euro fusion looks kinda funky. not bad neccasarily, just... odd..the deisel focus looks kinda nifty too

phew saved myself. theres actually some good content in this post now :P

jgsmuzzy 12/1/05 01:14 AM

You may as well go for it now Arin, I think this thread has been complately hijacked.

BTT

The European focus has a harder suspension set up than it's American cousin. This is due to the difference in the layout and the quality of theroads.

mustang_sallad 12/3/05 10:18 PM

That one looks like a C-max focus. Those things are sweet, we just started getting pretty much the same thing in the form of the Mazda5... one of the ten finalists in MT's COTY!! mini-mini-van basically, based on the C1 platform.
Ya, the euro fusion is something else, that's for sure. I remember realizing when i was in france last summer how the headlights are pretty much the same idea though. Very cool. I think the fusion is based on the fiesta platform. Over there, they also have the mazda2, which is also based on the fiesta, but its somewhere in between the fiesta and the fusion in terms of height.
I picked up this sweet magazine by Automobile while in france, though i've seen it for sale here too, Toutes Les Voitures du Monde... All The Cars in the World... so its mainly got the european cars, plus small bits on what they've got in the US and Australia and Asia... very cool stuff in general.

Somebody had one of those escorts parked near where i was staying, a wagon... man, i found that pretty ugly. The Mondeo's sweet though. Check out this one:

http://www.caradisiac.com/media/imag...deo_01_big.jpg

AND its a wagon! sweeet... But I really like the face on the mondeo. Actually the tails pretty nice too... AWESOME CAR!! hahaha. but seriously, they did a good job of sharing some common traits between cars, those headlights and the grill. Looks like a grown up focus.
http://www.autoshow.ro/images/wallpa...tanium_800.jpg

Nice fender bulges too. If only they had been selling those instead of the taurus for the past couple years, then the fusion wouldn't have to work so hard to catch up.

mustang_sallad 12/3/05 10:20 PM

By the way, i thought this was a sweet thread. I never knew how different all the cars in europe were until i got there. I always just thought the cars we had here were available everywhere. Its like stepping onto another planet in terms of cars over there.

Autotooner 12/3/05 11:13 PM

what is the newest uk focus like? I've heard it was awesome...

mustang_sallad 12/4/05 11:16 AM

there's a thread just a little lower down on the Focus ST, it links to this review:
http://www.edmunds.com/insideline/do/Featu...cleId=108108#10
that is a sweet car

Autotooner 12/4/05 01:13 PM

:werd: thanks for the review. :nice:
