Ford nabs former Cadillac stylist for new Lincoln design chief

http://www.autoblog.com/2010/12/01/f...-design-chief/

Wolff, 38, is tasked with creating a definitive design language for Lincoln that extends beyond the large split-grilled creations we currently see. Specifically, Ford has cited that the Lincoln brand will debut seven all-new or significantly refreshed vehicles over the next four years, including the automaker's first-ever C-segment car.
I think this is an excellent move for FMC. And the beginning of many new things to come for Lincoln!

Lincoln, as a "premium" brand, does need a far more definitive, coherent and cohesive brand character and identity than it currently has. It does have a few, somewhat weak, unique stylistic elements, but these haven't gelled into a cohesive and compelling whole necessary for a line of cars aspiring above being dray transport.

Whether one likes Caddie's Arts and Science design theme, it is very identifying and unique to Cadillac. Hopefully, Wolff can infuse a similarly cohesive, albeit uniquely Lincoln, theme.

Lincoln needs to start using well known names instead of this whole MK-Nonsense.

This could be good news. Agreed, the MK could go, but I see what they were getting at. The top tier brands are easy to identify models with short names and similar monikers. The MK thing though, just go to where I didn't know what MK model was what. It was just MK..something.

At this point there is no naming strategy that ever makes anyone happy ever. As long as the Mustang is still the Mustang and is still a Mustang, I really don't care what anything else is called.

And all that info does what in regards to the Lincoln designer pick?

Nothing. But hey, there's a limo service!

///Mmmm, spam musubis. In Hawaii. From the 7-Eleven. Yum.
////Oh, the pick? Not a fan of Caddy's current looks, so not really diggin' him. "Whatever", though, comes to mind.

Unless He Resurrects the "Mark" Coupe, which should be a Mark IX, I could care less.
